Description

The ZTE U60 Pro 5G Pocket WiFi is ZTE’s U60 Pro mobile hotspot, model MU5250, a grey pocket router that turns one nano-SIM into a Wi-Fi 7 network for up to 64 devices. It runs on the Snapdragon X75 5G Modem-RF platform, has a 3.5-inch touchscreen on the front, an NFC tap zone for Android phones and a 10,000mAh battery that also charges your phone. It is in stock in the UAE and ships from Totot.

What the ZTE U60 Pro 5G Pocket WiFi is

A pocket router sits between a SIM card and your other devices. You insert a data SIM, switch it on, and laptops, tablets, phones, a TV stick or a games console join its Wi-Fi as they would join a home router. ZTE calls the U60 Pro a 5G Mobile WiFi and sums it up as “Wi-Fi 7 meets 5G in your pocket”. The box calls it a Flagship Pocket Wi-Fi, and the ZTE quick start guide lists the product model as MU5250.

The ZTE U60 Pro 5G Pocket WiFi is meant for the moments when home broadband is not there or not enough: a rented apartment before the fibre is installed, a site office, a weekend camp in the desert, a car on a long drive, a team stand at an exhibition, or a hotel room where the free Wi-Fi is slow. ZTE also suggests it for gaming in a shared room and for live streaming outdoors, where a single strong uplink matters more than anything else.

5G speed on the ZTE U60 Pro 5G Pocket WiFi: X75 modem and 9 antennas

Inside is Qualcomm’s Snapdragon X75 5G Modem-RF, which ZTE describes as a flagship chipset platform with strong compatibility and stability across complex networks. ZTE quotes a peak 5G download speed of up to 4.29Gbps using 3CC carrier aggregation. That figure comes from ZTE’s lab and is a theoretical rate; real speed depends on your operator, your plan, the signal where you stand and how many people share the cell.

To keep the signal strong, ZTE fits 9 omnidirectional 5G antennas arranged for 360° full-band coverage, which the company says helps the signal through walls and floors. The supported band list is broad and covers 5G NR sub-6, LTE FDD and TDD, and UMTS as a fallback; the full list is in the specifications below. Check with your operator which bands your SIM uses before you rely on a particular speed.

Wi-Fi 7 on the ZTE U60 Pro 5G Pocket WiFi for up to 64 devices

On the Wi-Fi side, the ZTE U60 Pro 5G Pocket WiFi supports Wi-Fi 7 (802.11be) as well as older standards back to 802.11a/b/g/n/ac/ax, so older laptops and new phones connect alike. It runs dual band on 2.4GHz and 5GHz with 2 × 2 MIMO, 4K QAM and 160MHz channels, and ZTE quotes up to 3600Mbps as the peak Wi-Fi rate, again a lab figure. ZTE also mentions Preamble Puncturing, a Wi-Fi 7 feature that lets the router keep using a wide channel when part of it is busy, which helps in crowded places such as apartment blocks and malls.

ZTE rates the ZTE U60 Pro 5G Pocket WiFi for up to 64 simultaneous connections. In practice that means a whole family, a small office or a group trip can share one SIM: phones, laptops, a tablet for the children, a smart speaker and a console all on the same network. You can also connect a laptop, tablet or phone directly with a USB Type-C cable if you prefer a wired link to Wi-Fi.

10,000mAh battery and power bank mode

The battery is the biggest difference between the ZTE U60 Pro 5G Pocket WiFi and smaller hotspots. ZTE lists 10,000mAh as the typical capacity and quotes up to 29 hours of use and 41 days of standby, both from ZTE’s lab, so expect less with heavy 5G traffic and many connected devices. The battery is built in and not removable.

It charges at up to 27W through the USB Type-C port, which supports PD3.0 PPS, QC2.0 and QC3.0 fast-charging protocols according to ZTE’s quick guide. The same port works in reverse: the ZTE U60 Pro 5G Pocket WiFi doubles as a power bank with up to 18W wired output (5V 3A, 9V 2A or 12V 1.5A) for a phone or tablet. ZTE notes that the power bank function switches off when the battery drops below 10%, so the router keeps enough charge to stay online.

Touchscreen, NFC and work modes on the ZTE U60 Pro 5G Pocket WiFi

The front of the ZTE U60 Pro 5G Pocket WiFi is a 3.5-inch HD touchscreen. It shows signal, battery, upload and download speed and the data you have used, and from it you can change some settings, read SMS messages and update the software. First setup also happens on the screen: you accept the privacy notice, set the Wi-Fi name and password, the web login password, a sleep time and an optional screen lock.

Below the screen of the ZTE U60 Pro 5G Pocket WiFi is an NFC area. ZTE says an Android phone with NFC switched on joins the Wi-Fi when you tap it there, with no password to type. This tap-to-connect works only with Android phones; iPhone users join the normal way. For deeper settings you can log in to the web management page using the IP address on the device label, or use the ZTE Smart Life app. ZTE lists several work modes, such as a speed mode, gaming, video and streaming modes, and AI features such as smart scenarios and child protection, but notes that the AI features are supported only in select regions and that AI voice control is not yet available in some countries.

Who This Is Not For

The ZTE U60 Pro 5G Pocket WiFi is not for you if you need an Ethernet port: ZTE lists only a USB Type-C port and a nano-SIM slot, with no LAN socket for a desktop PC or a wired switch. ZTE mentions only a nano-SIM, not eSIM, so you need a physical SIM card. NFC quick connect is for Android phones only. The battery is built in, so you cannot carry a spare battery as you could with some smaller models. ZTE does not publish the weight, but at 158 × 73 × 16 mm with a 10,000mAh cell it is closer to a power bank than to a slim key-ring hotspot. If you only have a 4G plan and connect a few devices, a simpler 4G hotspot costs less and does the job. And if your SIM is locked to one operator, the router cannot remove that lock.
