A limited edition, not a sticker pad
The DualSense Wireless Controller Fortnite is not a third-party pad with Fortnite branding added. It is the same DualSense wireless controller Sony sells for the PS5, with the same buttons, sticks, triggers and connections, made in a special Fortnite finish. Sony priced it at launch at $84.99, €84.99, £74.99 and ¥12,480, and said the exact launch date and availability may vary by region. Because it was released in limited quantities, it is not a permanent colour in the DualSense range, and stock can be hard to find once a region sells out.
Fishstick and Peely
Sony names Fishstick and Peely as the two Fortnite characters behind the design, and invites players to drop into the action and defy the Storm as they build, battle and create. The theme makes the DualSense Wireless Controller Fortnite easy to recognise from across the room. It suits a long-time Fortnite player, a younger player who wants a pad that matches their favourite skins, or a household that wants the second controller to look clearly different so nobody grabs the wrong one.
Haptic feedback and adaptive triggers
As on every DualSense, Sony describes the haptic feedback as physically responsive feedback produced by dual actuators which replace traditional rumble motors, so surfaces, impacts and weapons can feel distinct. The adaptive triggers apply varying levels of force and tension as you interact with in-game gear and environments, from a bowstring tightening to a brake pushing back. Sony notes both features are available when the game supports them, so the effect varies from title to title.
Microphone, speaker and Create button
The DualSense Wireless Controller Fortnite keeps the built-in microphone for online chat, a 3.5 mm headset jack and a dedicated mute button to stop voice capture with one press; Sony notes online chat needs an internet connection and an account for PlayStation. An integrated speaker plays extra sound effects in select games, and the Create button captures and broadcasts your best moments. The built-in battery charges over USB Type-C, and you can keep playing while it is connected.
PS5, PC, Mac and mobile
On PS5 the DualSense Wireless Controller Fortnite gives the full DualSense feature set. Sony states that DualSense also connects by USB Type-C cable or Bluetooth to Windows PCs and Mac computers, and to Android and iOS phones and tablets. Apple devices need macOS 11.3, iOS 14.5, iPadOS 14.5 or tvOS 14.5 or later. On PC, haptic feedback and adaptive triggers may require a USB connection and work only in supported games. Firmware updates on Windows are handled through the PlayStation Accessories app.
Who This Is Not For
The DualSense Wireless Controller Fortnite is not for PS4-only households: it is a PS5 controller. Players who want back buttons or swappable stick caps need the DualSense Edge. Sony states that a USB cable is not included and suggests the cable supplied with the PS5 console. Sony does not list any in-game Fortnite items or codes with the controller, and anyone who prefers a plain finish should pick a standard colour.
