What Comes in the Starlink Standard Kit

Starlink lists the box contents as the Standard antenna, the kickstand, Router 3, the power supply, a 1.5 m AC power cable and a 15 m Starlink cable. The 15 m cable runs from the dish to the power supply and router indoors, so plan the route from the roof or garden to the room where the router will sit before you drill anything.

The antenna is an electronic phased array with no motor. It steers its beam electronically, and setup is software assisted manual orienting: the Starlink app shows where to point the dish, and you set the angle by hand on the kickstand. The kickstand also means the Starlink Standard Kit can be placed on the ground or a roof without extra mounting hardware, though Starlink sells separate mounts for permanent installation.

Router 3: Tri-Band WiFi 6 for a Whole House

The biggest practical difference from the Mini is the separate router. Router 3 uses WiFi 6 (802.11a/b/g/n/ac/ax) with tri-band 4 × 4 MU-MIMO. Starlink rates the coverage at up to 297 m² and the capacity at up to 235 connected devices, which suits a family home where phones, TVs, laptops, consoles and cameras are all online at the same time.

Router 3 has two latching Ethernet LAN ports behind a removable cover, so a TV, a gaming console or a desktop PC can be wired directly without buying an adapter. Starlink rates the router IP56 (water resistant) but configures it for indoor use, so keep it inside.

For a large villa where WiFi does not reach every room, Starlink states Router 3 is compatible with Starlink Gen 2 and Router 3 mesh nodes, which are sold separately.

Power and Running Cost

The power supply accepts 100–240V AC at 2.5A and 50–60 Hz, so it plugs straight into UAE mains through the supplied AC cable. Starlink rates the average consumption of the Starlink Standard Kit at 75–100W.

That is roughly two to three times the 25–40W average of the Starlink Mini, which is the main reason the Standard kit is a home product. It can run off-grid from a large inverter and battery system, but it is not designed for a car’s 12V socket the way the Mini is.

Heat, Dust, Wind and Placement in the UAE

Starlink rates the antenna IP67 Type 4, meaning sealed against dust and protected against temporary immersion. The operating temperature range is -30°C to 50°C for both the antenna and Router 3. On the hottest summer days, inland air temperatures in the UAE can come close to that 50°C limit, so give the dish open air and keep the router indoors in a shaded, ventilated spot.

The wind rating is 96 kph and above while operating, and the snow melt handles up to 40 mm per hour. The field of view is 110°, so the best place for the Starlink Standard Kit is usually the roof or an open garden area, away from walls, palm trees and taller neighbouring buildings that would block part of the sky.

Starlink Standard Kit or Starlink Mini Kit?

If the connection stays at one address and serves several people, the Starlink Standard Kit is the better choice: a bigger antenna, a separate tri-band WiFi 6 router with up to 297 m² of coverage and up to 235 devices, and two Ethernet ports.

If you need the dish to travel, the Starlink Mini Kit is the one to choose. It weighs 1.10 kg, puts a WiFi 5 router inside the dish with coverage up to 112 m², and runs on 12–48V DC at 25–40W on average.

Not for car, boat or backpack use. At 2.9 kg for the dish and 75–100W average draw from mains power, the Mini kit suits travel far better.

Not for homes without roof or garden access to open sky. The 110° field of view needs a clear view; covered courtyards and narrow spaces between buildings will cause dropouts.

Not for outdoor router placement. Router 3 is rated IP56 but configured for indoor use.
