Need for Speed Unbound is Criterion Games’ open-world street racer for PlayStation 5, published by Electronic Arts and released on 2 December 2022. You start at the bottom of Lakeshore’s street racing scene and race your way towards The Grand, the city’s ultimate street race, while the police try to shut you down. This listing is the physical PS5 disc with the PEGI 12 cover shown in the photos.

Need for Speed Unbound: From the Bottom to The Grand
PlayStation sums up the career in one line: race against time, outsmart the cops and take on weekly qualifiers to reach The Grand, Lakeshore’s ultimate street racing challenge. Each week of the single-player story pushes you to earn enough to enter the next qualifier, so planning which races to run matters as much as driving fast.
Need for Speed Unbound keeps its single-player and multiplayer campaigns separate. The offline career is for one player, while online play is optional and supports up to 16 players; on PS5 that needs a PlayStation Plus membership.
Street Art Meets Realistic Cars
The look is what most people notice first. Graffiti comes to life in an all-new visual style that blends the freshest street art with what EA calls the most realistic-looking cars in Need for Speed history. Smoke, drift trails and boost effects are drawn in an illustrated style over cars that otherwise look photographic.
Your garage is the other half of the identity. EA invites you to pack it with precision-tuned, custom rides and to light up the streets with your own style and exclusive outfits, so tuning and visual customisation are part of the progression rather than an afterthought.
Heat, Cops and Escapes
The more you race, the more heat you build. As the police pile on the pressure, you make tactical decisions with new escape mechanics to take control of the chase, and the risk of losing a night’s winnings to an arrest is what gives each run its tension in Need for Speed Unbound.
The soundtrack is built around hip hop and its global interpretations, led by A$AP Rocky and AWGE, with an original score by Brodinski.
PS5 Features, Languages and Updates
On PS5 the game uses the DualSense adaptive triggers and haptic feedback, plus Tempest 3D AudioTech. Voice acting is in English, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Polish and Spanish. PlayStation Store UAE lists 12 screen languages for Need for Speed Unbound, including Arabic, English, French, German, Japanese and Korean.
EA has expanded the game through a series of Volume updates. Vol. 9, released on 19 November 2024, added the first playable motorbike in the series, the BMW S 1000 RR, in the Lockdown mode; EA states that this content needs the base game with all updates, an internet connection and an EA account.
Who This Is Not For
Need for Speed Unbound is a street racer built around police chases and style, not a circuit-based driving simulator, so players who want realistic track racing will be better served elsewhere.
Online races need PlayStation Plus, and the newer Volume content requires downloading the updates with an internet connection and an EA account. Arabic is available for on-screen text only, with no Arabic voice acting. The PEGI 12 rating on the case reflects the police chases and street racing themes.
