SAROS PS5 is Housemarque’s biggest game to date and the studio’s first major release since Returnal put it on the map. Released exclusively for PlayStation 5 on 30 April 2026, it drops you onto Carcosa, a shape-shifting off-world colony trapped under a permanent eclipse, as Soltari enforcer Arjun Devraj goes looking for someone he refuses to give up on.

Table of Contents
Carcosa and the Eclipse
Carcosa is a lost colony that does not stay still. The world reshapes itself, which is both a narrative device and a structural one — the ground you cleared last time is not necessarily the ground you return to. Housemarque has called this its most ambitious story yet, and unlike Returnal it is told through grounded voice performance, cinematics, audio logs and conversations with named characters rather than fragments left for you to assemble.
The eclipse hanging over everything is not decoration. It sets the light, the tone and the pressure, and the game is built around what the darkness underneath it hides.
Bullet Ballet: How SAROS PS5 Plays
Housemarque coined the phrase “bullet ballet” for what it does, and it fits. This is third-person action built on decades of arcade shooter design: dense projectile patterns, constant movement, a dash that has to be timed rather than spammed, and futuristic weapons that reward aggression.
Two additions define SAROS PS5 specifically. The Soltari Shield deploys a temporary energy bubble with a shoulder button, buying you a moment to read a room and absorbing incoming fire. A Parry executed on exact timing reflects certain projectiles straight back, destroying or staggering whatever fired them. Together they turn defence into offence, which is the loop the whole game is tuned around.
Permanent Progression, Not a Roguelike
This is the crucial difference from Returnal, and the reason people who bounced off that game should look again. Creative director Gregory Louden has been explicit: resources and progression are permanent, so every death is valuable rather than a reset. You keep what you earned. The world changes after each death, but your Soltari combat suit, abilities and upgrades come with you.
There is also a Second Chance mechanic, unlocked later in the game, which revives Arjun after a fatal hit. Housemarque built this one to be finished, not endlessly restarted.

Rahul Kohli and the Ensemble Cast
Arjun is performed by Rahul Kohli, known for Midnight Mass, The Haunting of Bly Manor and The Fall of the House of Usher. He is joined by an ensemble that includes Jane Perry as Sheridan Bouchard — Perry played Selene in Returnal, which longtime Housemarque players will notice immediately. Sam Slater composed the score.

PS5 Pro Enhanced
SAROS is listed as PS5 Pro Enhanced and is built in Unreal Engine 5. Housemarque games have historically been among the best-looking titles on PlayStation hardware, and this one leans hard on particle density and lighting under the eclipse. It is exclusive to PlayStation 5 with no PlayStation 4 version.

FAQ – SAROS PS5
Is it a roguelike like Returnal?
No. Progression and resources are permanent. The world changes after death, but your upgrades and abilities carry forward, so it plays as a campaign rather than a run-based loop.
Do I need to have played Returnal?
No. SAROS is a completely separate story with new characters and a new world. Returnal players will recognise the combat DNA and one returning voice actor, nothing more.
Is there a PS4 version?
No. It is a PlayStation 5 exclusive and will not run on PlayStation 4.
Does it need PS5 Pro?
No. It runs on a standard PlayStation 5 and is additionally enhanced for PS5 Pro owners.
Is there any multiplayer?
No. It is a single-player game and can be played entirely offline.
Does Totot deliver across the UAE?
Yes. We ship nationwide via Aramex for a fixed AED 10, with cash on delivery, Tabby and Tamara available at checkout.
