SAROS PS5 is Housemarque’s dark sci-fi action game, published by Sony Interactive Entertainment and released exclusively on PlayStation 5 on 30 April 2026. PlayStation calls it a haunting, dark, sci-fi adventure from the creators of Returnal. Beneath the shadow of an ominous eclipse, Arjun Devraj, played by Rahul Kohli, is a Soltari enforcer who will stop at nothing to pursue answers on Carcosa, a shape-shifting planet full of dark secrets and hostile inhabitants.

Is SAROS PS5 Out?

Yes. Sony Interactive Entertainment announced that SAROS launched worldwide, exclusively on PlayStation 5, on 30 April 2026. The date moved during development: PlayStation first announced 20 March 2026 and later confirmed 30 April. The game on this page is the released retail version.

Since launch, PlayStation has also detailed a free SAROS: Zenith update that adds an Overlord Rush mode, Eclipse Layers as a New Game+ option, and accessibility options including high-contrast visuals, gyro aiming and a toggleable Slow Game Speed setting.

Bullet Ballet, Evolved

Housemarque’s signature is what it calls bullet ballet: dense patterns of enemy projectiles that you read and weave through. In SAROS PS5, PlayStation describes a high-tech arsenal of weaponry and a fluid mix of dodging, shielding and parrying enemy attacks.

The parry is new. According to the PlayStation Blog, with perfect timing on R1 you can reflect certain projectiles back at enemies, destroying or staggering them. That turns some of the danger on screen into a weapon, and rewards players who learn the attack patterns.

Runs, a Changing World and Permanent Progression

SAROS PS5 is structured around runs. After every run, PlayStation says, you face a changed world, with new paths through each biome, shaped by the corrupting influence of the Eclipse. Unlike a pure roguelike, though, progress carries over: Sony describes permanent progression, with the resources you gain ensuring that this world yields to you.

There is also a Second Chance feature that revives you instantly on your first death in a run, which softens the punishment for a single mistake.

Story, Cast and Sound

Housemarque calls SAROS its biggest and most ambitious story yet. Rahul Kohli, known from The Haunting of Bly Manor and Midnight Mass, leads as Arjun Devraj. The PlayStation Blog lists an ensemble cast including Jane Perry as Sheridan Bouchard, Ben Prendergast as Jerome Jackson and David DeSantos as Sebastian Torres, and you learn their stories through conversations and audio logs in the Passage hub.

The score is a dark electronic soundtrack from two-time Grammy Award-winning composer Sam Slater, delivered with 3D audio. The DualSense adaptive triggers and haptic feedback are used throughout, according to PlayStation.

PS5 Pro, Players and Languages

SAROS PS5 is PS5 Pro Enhanced: PlayStation says it uses PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR) for AI-enhanced resolution on PS5 Pro. It is a single-player game with offline play enabled.

Who This Is Not For

Players who want co-op or online multiplayer: SAROS PS5 is single player only. Players who find fast, projectile-heavy action stressful should also think twice; even with Second Chance and the Zenith accessibility options, the core of the game is intense reflex combat.

This is the standard edition. The Astra, Onryo and Midgard armour sets, inspired by Returnal, Ghost of Yōtei and God of War, belong to the Digital Deluxe Edition and are not included; PlayStation sells an upgrade separately.
