Ghost of Tsushima Director’s Cut is the PS5 edition of the open-world action adventure from Sucker Punch Productions and PlayStation Studios, published by Sony Interactive Entertainment. PlayStation lists its release on 19 August 2021. Alongside the original campaign set on Tsushima Island in 1274, this edition adds a new story on Iki Island and the Legends online co-op mode. On PS5, Ghost of Tsushima runs at a dynamic 4K resolution targeting 60 frames per second and uses the DualSense controller’s haptic feedback and Tempest 3D AudioTech.

A samurai forced to change
In Ghost of Tsushima you play Jin Sakai, raised and trained in the ways of the samurai by his uncle Shimura, the jito of Tsushima. When the Mongol army under Khotun Khan defeats the samurai forces, Jin faces a hard choice: stay true to the samurai code and fight a battle he cannot win, or abandon that path and protect the island and its people by any means necessary. As the story moves on, Jin adopts tactics that are anything but samurai-like and becomes The Ghost. That conflict between honour and survival is what gives Ghost of Tsushima its weight, and it shapes the relationship between Jin and Shimura throughout the campaign.
Combat, stealth and the open world
PlayStation describes combat in three layers. Up close you duel with the katana; at range you master the bow to remove distant threats; and with stealth and deception you disorient and ambush enemies with surprise attacks. Between fights, the open world of Ghost of Tsushima invites you to roam countryside and wide terrain, meet characters, discover ancient landmarks and uncover the hidden beauty of the island. You can approach many encounters either as a samurai who challenges enemies head-on or as The Ghost striking from the shadows, so two players rarely clear a camp in the same way.
What the Director’s Cut adds
The Director’s Cut adds the Iki Island expansion, a new story on a separate island that Jin travels to, and Legends, the online co-op mode. PlayStation’s store listing for the digital Director’s Cut also names a digital mini art book, director’s commentary, one Technique Point, the Charm of Hachiman’s Favour and the Hero of Tsushima skin set. Those extras are listed for the digital edition, so we do not promise them with this sealed disc. If you already own the PS4 version, PlayStation offers a paid upgrade path to the PS5 Director’s Cut, but this listing is the complete PS5 disc in its own box.
Ghost of Tsushima on PS5
PlayStation states that the PS5 version lets you explore Tsushima and Iki Island at a dynamic 4K resolution targeting 60fps, and notes that this needs a 4K display. Dynamic means the resolution scales with the scene, and targeting means 60fps is the goal, not a guarantee in every moment. Haptic feedback in the DualSense lets you feel the weight of every footfall and katana slash, and Tempest 3D AudioTech places sounds around you through a headset or through your display’s speakers. PlayStation also lists 30 accessibility features for the PS5 version, and you can turn off vibration and the adaptive trigger effect if you prefer.
Players, online play and languages
The main campaign and Iki Island are for one player and play offline. Legends supports up to 4 online players and needs a PS Plus subscription; online play is optional. Arabic is one of the screen languages listed on PlayStation’s UAE page, together with English, French, German, Turkish, Japanese and other European languages. Voice languages are English, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Polish, Portuguese, Russian and Spanish, so there is no Arabic voice-over. PlayStation’s UAE page rates Ghost of Tsushima for ages 18 and over.
Who This Is Not For
Ghost of Tsushima is rated 18+, so it is not for younger players: combat is bloody and the themes of war and loss are mature. If you want Arabic voice acting, you will find Arabic only in the on-screen text. If you want the newer game in the series, this is not it: Ghost of Yotei, set 300 years later in northern Japan, launched on PS5 on 2 October 2025. Online co-op in Legends needs PS Plus, and the digital-only bonus items are not promised with the disc.
