What 11.1.4 means on the JBL Bar 1300 MK2
The first number is the channels at ear level, the second is the subwoofer, the third is height channels that bounce sound off the ceiling. JBL lists 11 ear-level channels, 1 subwoofer and 4 height channels for the JBL Bar 1300 MK2.
Inside the main bar JBL lists 8 racetrack drivers of 50 x 75 mm, 7 tweeters of 25 mm and 4 up-firing drivers of 75 mm. Each surround speaker has 2 racetrack drivers, a 50 mm full-range driver and a 75 mm up-firing driver. The subwoofer uses 2 drivers of 200 mm, which is 8 inches.
JBL rates the total system at 2,470 W maximum at 1 percent THD, or 1,235 W RMS. The bar alone is rated 950 W maximum, each surround 160 W and the subwoofer 1,200 W. Frequency response reaches 33 Hz to 20 kHz at -6 dB.
Detachable surround speakers on the JBL Bar 1300 MK2
The two end pieces of the JBL Bar 1300 MK2 lift off the bar and become wireless rear speakers. JBL gives each a 7.2 V, 4,722 mAh battery with up to 10 hours of play, and adds that runtime varies with content and volume. When you are done, dock them back on the bar and they charge.
This is ideal in UAE apartments where running cables to the back of a majlis or living room is not possible. For a film night you place them behind the sofa. For everyday TV they sit on the bar and the system still plays as a wide soundbar.
JBL lists Bluetooth 5.4 on the surround speakers and Bluetooth 5.3 on the main bar.
Sound technologies: Atmos, DTS:X, MultiBeam, PureVoice
JBL lists true Dolby Atmos and DTS:X for height effects in films and games, MultiBeam 3.0 to widen the soundstage, and PureVoice 2.0 to keep dialogue clear over effects. JBL also lists SmartDetails and AI Sound Boost.
Automatic room calibration measures how sound reflects off your walls and tunes the system to your room. Run it after placing the bar and surrounds, and again if you move furniture.
For Arabic films and series where dialogue is often mixed low, PureVoice is the setting to try first.
Connections and streaming on the JBL Bar 1300 MK2
JBL lists HDMI eARC and an HDMI input with 4K Dolby Vision passthrough, plus an optical input. Connect the TV’s eARC port to get Dolby Atmos from TV apps, and use the HDMI input for a console or streaming box.
Wireless options include Wi-Fi 6 on 2.4 and 5 GHz, Bluetooth 5.3 on the bar, AirPlay, Google Cast, Spotify Connect, Tidal Connect and Roon Ready.
JBL gives networked standby power as under 2 W.
Size, weight and what is in the box
The bar measures 1030 x 58 x 136 mm, and 1404 mm wide with both surrounds attached. Each surround measures 202 x 58 x 136 mm. The subwoofer measures 315 x 277 x 275 mm. Check that your TV stand is at least 1.4 m wide if you plan to keep the surrounds docked.
Weights are 5.93 kg for the bar, 1.3 kg per surround and 12 kg for the subwoofer.
JBL lists the box contents as the soundbar, 2 detachable surround speakers, the wireless subwoofer, a remote with 2 batteries, power cords, 1 HDMI cable, 2 L-shaped wall brackets for the bar and 2 U-shaped brackets for the surrounds, 4 side caps, a quick start guide, safety and warranty documents and a wall mount template.
Who the JBL Bar 1300 MK2 is for, and who should not buy it
It suits families who want real surround and height effects without wiring rear speakers, film and sports fans with a large living room or majlis, and PS5 and Xbox owners who want Atmos for games.
Who it is not for: small bedrooms, where the system is more than the room needs. TV stands narrower than 1.4 m if the surrounds stay docked. Anyone who needs several HDMI inputs, since JBL lists one. And buyers on a budget, for whom the smaller JBL Bar 1000 offers a 7.1.4 system at a lower price.
