Elden Ring Nightreign is FromSoftware’s standalone adventure set in the Elden Ring universe, published by Bandai Namco and released in May 2025. Bandai Namco describes it as a new experience that reimagines the game’s core design: instead of one long journey, you play short expeditions with up to two other players, racing to grow stronger before facing a Nightlord. This is the PlayStation 5 Standard Edition on disc, and you do not need the original game to play it.

Elden Ring Nightreign: A Standalone Game, Not an Expansion
Elden Ring Nightreign runs on its own. It is not DLC for Elden Ring, and you do not need to own the base game. It borrows the world, the enemies and the combat feel of the original, then rebuilds the structure around repeatable sessions designed for a team.
If you are looking for the full open-world journey through the Lands Between, that is a different product: Elden Ring for PS5 is the original game, and Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree Edition for PS5 bundles it with the expansion. Nightreign is the faster, co-op-focused spin-off.
Three Days in Limveld
Each expedition takes place in Limveld, which Bandai Namco calls a transitory land buffeted by the raging might of the Nightlords. Three Nightfarers have two full days to explore it, gather equipment and grow stronger. Each night brings a fight, and on the third day the team faces the Nightlord at the end of the run.
The map changes between sessions, and as the Night’s Tide advances, the playable area shrinks and pushes everyone into a protective circle. That pressure is what makes Elden Ring Nightreign feel different from the original: you are always weighing one more detour against the closing night.
Eight Nightfarers to Choose From
Instead of building a character from scratch, you pick a Nightfarer, a ready-made hero with their own abilities. Bandai Namco lists eight in the game, among them Wylder, Guardian, Ironeye, Duchess, Raider and Recluse. Each plays a different role, so a team that combines them well has a better chance against the Nightlords.
Progress in Elden Ring Nightreign comes from learning the heroes and the bosses rather than from one character growing over dozens of hours. Every run starts fresh, which suits players who like short, intense sessions.
Solo, Duo or Three Players
The game was built for three-player teams. At launch it offered solo play or groups of three; Bandai Namco’s patch 1.02, released on 31 July 2025, added two-player expeditions, so you can now play alone, as a pair or as a full trio. Bandai Namco also confirms that solo play works offline.
Online play on PS5 requires a PlayStation Plus subscription, according to PlayStation’s UAE page. Bandai Namco states that Elden Ring Nightreign supports cross-play between PS5 and PS4, but not between PlayStation, Xbox and PC, so friends on other platforms cannot join your team.
Arabic Text, Age Rating and Editions
PlayStation’s UAE page lists Arabic among the screen languages, together with English, French, German, Italian, Polish, Russian and Spanish, so menus and subtitles can be read in Arabic. Voice-over is in English only. The UAE age rating listed is 16, and the cover of this copy carries PEGI 16.
This disc is the Standard Edition, which contains the game only. The Deluxe Edition, sold digitally, adds DLC, a digital artbook and a mini soundtrack, and the paid expansion The Forsaken Hollows, released on 4 December 2025, is sold separately too. Neither is included here.
Who This Is Not For
Skip Elden Ring Nightreign if you want the slow, story-rich exploration of the original Elden Ring; this is a run-based co-op game where each session resets. It is also demanding: FromSoftware’s combat is unforgiving, and losing a run means starting over.
Players without PlayStation Plus can only play solo, and there is no cross-play with Xbox or PC friends. The disc needs a PS5 with a disc drive, and the PS4 version is a separate product.
