Call of Duty Modern Warfare (2019) PS4 – Infinity Ward Campaign, 2v2 to Ground War Multiplayer, Special Ops Co-op, PEGI 18

Call of Duty Modern Warfare is the 2019 reboot of the Modern Warfare series, developed by Infinity Ward, the studio that created the series, and published by Activision. This is the PlayStation 4 disc in the European box, rated PEGI 18. PlayStation describes it as a bold, narrative-driven reimagining of the classic Modern Warfare games, with a single-player campaign set across European landmarks and Middle Eastern hot zones, online multiplayer from 2v2 to large-scale Ground War, and Special Ops co-op. Activision’s launch post dates its release to 24 October 2019.

Which Call of Duty Modern Warfare is this?

Several games carry the Modern Warfare name, so it helps to be precise. This is the 2019 game titled simply Call of Duty Modern Warfare, with the large MW logo on the cover. It is not Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare from 2007, nor Modern Warfare II (2022) or Modern Warfare III (2023), which are separate releases. The box is the European PS4 print, with the PEGI 18 rating on the front. Because it is a PS4 disc, it plays on any PS4 console in the UAE.

The campaign: Garrick, Alex and Farah

Activision introduces three playable characters in the campaign of Call of Duty Modern Warfare: Sergeant Kyle Garrick, CIA agent Alex, known as Echo 1, and Farah Karim, leader of the Urzikstan Liberation Force. The story moves between them, so you see the same conflict from the view of a soldier, an intelligence officer and a local resistance leader. Activision lists several difficulty levels, from Recruit for newcomers to Veteran for experienced players, so the story can be followed at your own pace. The game deals with mature themes, which is why it carries a PEGI 18 rating for violence and language.

Multiplayer from 2v2 to Ground War

Online, Call of Duty Modern Warfare runs from small to very large matches. The PlayStation page lists intense 2v2, fast-paced 6v6 and large-scale Ground War, and Activision adds Free-for-All and tactical objective modes. Progression runs through custom loadouts and weapon levels: you earn experience with each weapon to unlock attachments and weapon perks in the Gunsmith. On PS4, online play requires a PlayStation Plus membership, and the PlayStation page lists support for up to 20 online players.

Special Ops and crossplay

Special Ops is the co-operative side of Call of Duty Modern Warfare. Activision describes Operations played by four-player strike teams that continue the campaign story, with your Operators, loadouts and progress carried over from multiplayer. There are also Missions, timed challenges for one to four players, each ranked on a three-star scale. Activision also states that this was the first game in the franchise to offer crossplay and cross progression, so PS4 players could compete with friends on other platforms.

Playing on PS5

Call of Duty Modern Warfare is a PS4 game, and the PlayStation page states that it is playable on PS5, though some features available on PS4 may be absent and the console may need the latest system software. A PS5 with a disc drive reads the PS4 disc directly; a PS5 Digital Edition needs a disc drive attached first. There is no separate native PS5 version of this 2019 game.

Who This Is Not For

Call of Duty Modern Warfare is not for anyone under 18; the PEGI 18 rating covers violence, language and online interactions. It is not for players without a stable internet connection, and multiplayer and Special Ops on PS4 need PlayStation Plus. It is also not the newest Modern Warfare: anyone wanting current Call of Duty content should look at a later release. The European box does not list Arabic voice audio.
