The Sword Art Online Alicization Lycoris PS4 disc is an action role-playing game based on the Alicization arc of the Sword Art Online anime. It is published by Bandai Namco Entertainment and developed by Aquria, according to Bandai Namco Europe, and it released on PS4 in Europe on 10 July 2020. You play as Kirito, who wakes up in a strange virtual world called the Underworld, and you fight through it in real-time battles that mix sword skills, sacred arts and party attacks with familiar characters from the series.

Kirito, Eugeo and the Underworld
The game follows the Alicization arc of the Sword Art Online anime. Kirito wakes up in an unfamiliar virtual world that somehow feels familiar: the Underworld. There he meets Eugeo, a boy bound to him by a shared promise, and the two set out together on the path in front of them. The official PlayStation description opens with the line: They shared a moment in time, and thought they would be together forever. Bandai Namco Europe lists Kirito, Alice, Eugeo and the Administrator among the main characters, so fans of the anime will recognise the cast and the setting. The presentation follows a JRPG style with long story scenes and dialogue. Two story expansions, Blooming of Forget-me-not and Blooming of Matricaria, were released later as separate DLC and require you to finish the main story first.
Sword Skills, Sacred Arts and Party Chains
Lycoris is a real-time action RPG. According to the PlayStation description, battles combine sword attacks, skills, sacred arts and party chain attacks, so you switch between quick sword combos and the magic-like sacred arts of the Underworld. Bandai Namco Europe describes seamless, action-packed real-time battles in which you play as Kirito alongside familiar SAO characters. You explore maps and dungeons across the Underworld, fight monsters, collect weapons and gear, and build up your party as the story unfolds. Fans of anime action RPGs will find a familiar loop of exploring, fighting and upgrading, with the story arc of the anime as the backbone. Because the dialogue is voiced in Japanese with subtitles, players follow the plot by reading on-screen text during cutscenes and conversations.
Solo Story and Online Co-op
The main story is played by 1 player offline. The PlayStation Store lists optional online play for up to 4 players, which requires a PlayStation Plus membership on PS4. There is no local split-screen listed, so friends who want to play together each need their own console, copy and connection. The PEGI listing also notes in-game purchases. Voice acting is in Japanese only, and the European PlayStation Store lists on-screen text in English, French, German, Italian, Russian and Spanish. There is no Arabic language option.
Retail Disc, Region and PS5
You receive a new, factory-sealed retail disc of SWORD ART ONLINE Alicization Lycoris for PS4. PS4 games are region-free, so the disc plays on any PS4 console. The PlayStation Store states that the game is playable on PS5, though some PS4 features may be missing; a PS5 with a disc drive is needed for the disc. Delivered across the UAE in up to 3 business days, free on orders from AED 300.
Who This Is Not For
This game is made for Sword Art Online fans; newcomers may find the Alicization story hard to follow without the anime. Voice acting is Japanese only, so you must read subtitles, and there is no Arabic text. Online co-op needs PlayStation Plus and there is no split-screen. The two story expansions are not included and are sold separately. It is rated PEGI 12.
