The RIGS Mechanized Combat League PS4 disc is a first-person sports shooter made exclusively for PlayStation VR, developed by Guerrilla Cambridge and published by Sony Interactive Entertainment as a launch title for PS VR on 13 October 2016. You pilot RIGs, giant twin-gunned mechs, in futuristic stadium arenas and fight for glory in a mechanised sports league. Important before buying: you need a PS VR headset and PlayStation Camera to play, and Sony shut down the online servers on 12 August 2022. The offline single-player modes remain playable.

A Future Sport Played in Giant Mechs
RIGS has no traditional story campaign; instead it builds a sporting world around you. Sony’s official description presents it as a sports shooter set in futuristic arenas, where pilots climb into twin-gunned combat mechs called RIGs and compete head to head. In the single-player Career Mode you lead a team of AI pilots, beat rival teams and climb through the leagues, playing league fixtures and tournament fixtures that award cups. According to Guerrilla Cambridge on the PlayStation Blog, completing matches and trials earns credits and fame. Credits buy new RIGs and AI pilots, while fame grows your followers and attracts sponsors, who offer exclusive deals, liveries and pilot outfits for completing their challenges. Stadiums are set in global locations such as Dubai, Macau, Nevada and Rio, according to the official screenshots and blog posts.
Four RIG Types and Power Modes
Every RIG has its own handling, and Guerrilla Cambridge describes four main types. The Sentinel absorbs a lot of damage, the Hunter is fast and has a height advantage, the Mirage is quick and very manoeuvrable, and the Tempest hovers to give you an overview of the arena. All RIGs can switch between three power modes: Turbo for extra movement speed, Repair for faster self-repair and Impact for more damage. Matches take place in modes such as Endzone, where teams carry the ball forward and defend it, and Powerslam, where you race to score the match-winning goal. According to the PlayStation Blog, Career Mode lets you unlock 24 unique RIGs, each with its own style of play. Because you aim with your head in VR, the action feels physical and immediate, though it can be intense for new VR players.
Offline Career Mode and Online Shutdown
Offline, RIGS is a 1-player game built around Career Mode against AI teams. The PlayStation Store states that online servers for RIGS Mechanized Combat League shut down on 12 August 2022, ending all online features, including online multiplayer for up to 6 players, while single-player offline modes remain playable. The game requires a PlayStation VR headset and PlayStation Camera. Voice and text are available in English, French, German, Italian, Spanish, Polish, Portuguese and Russian, per the PlayStation Store. PS VR is not intended for children under 12.

Who This Is Not For
You cannot play RIGS without the original PS VR headset and PlayStation Camera; it does not support PS VR2 or normal TV play. Fast motion in VR can cause motion sickness, PS VR is not for children under 12, and there is no Arabic language option.
