amiibo Ike is Nintendo’s figure of the Fire Emblem mercenary hero in the Super Smash Bros. series line. Ike first appeared in Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance, and the figure shows him in his red cape with a huge golden-bladed sword planted at his side. Nintendo released it on 22 January 2015 in Japan and on 23 January 2015 in Europe, and it still reads in today’s Nintendo Switch games.

The Figure: Ike and His Greatsword
The sculpt stands Ike upright on the dark grey base used across the Super Smash Bros. series, one gloved fist resting on the hilt of a sword almost as tall as he is. The red cape flares out behind him, and the blue-and-gold armour on his shoulder, wrists and boots is painted apart from the brown tunic, so the figure reads clearly on a shelf.
Like every amiibo, it has an NFC chip in the base, so amiibo Ike works both as a display piece and as an in-game key. The box in our photos is the English-language Super Smash Bros. series packaging with the Ike name on the front.
amiibo Ike in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate
Nintendo lists Super Smash Bros. Ultimate as a read/write game for this figure: you bring amiibo Ike into the game as a fighter that grows and evolves over time. The official Smash Bros. site calls this a Figure Player, an AI-controlled fighter that builds its own personality and abilities as it battles.
You can also strengthen the Figure Player by passing on the attack and defence traits of spirits, and send it on a journey where it fights other travelling amiibo and comes back with replay data and, sometimes, rare items. Because the data is saved on the figure, a trained amiibo Ike keeps its progress on any console you tap it on. The same Figure Player feature works in Super Smash Bros. for Wii U and for Nintendo 3DS.
Fire Emblem Bonuses: Engage, Warriors and More
Ike is a Fire Emblem character, so his amiibo does more in that series than a generic figure. In Fire Emblem Engage, Nintendo says it gives Fashion and Music Tickets that unlock costumes and music tracks, and Nintendo Japan adds that these tickets come with the first scan on each save file.
Older Fire Emblem games also use it. In Fire Emblem Warriors on Switch and 3DS it gives a strong weapon for the character, in Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadows of Valentia it summons an Illusory Hero based on Ike, and in Fire Emblem Fates it gives items and lets you challenge the character to a battle, with a chance to recruit him into your army.
Other Compatible Games
Nintendo’s list for amiibo Ike is long. On Switch it includes The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom (weapons and materials), Kirby and the Forgotten Land (coins and items), Monster Hunter Rise (a daily lottery ticket for random items) and Super Mario Bros. Wonder (a power-up during a course). On Wii U, Super Mario Maker gives Mario an Ike costume through the Mystery Mushroom.
In most of these games the reward is the same one any amiibo gives, so expect Ike-specific content mainly in Smash Bros. and Fire Emblem. Nintendo also notes that some games need a software update before they read amiibo.
Who This Is Not For
amiibo Ike is not an articulated action figure: the pose is fixed and the base is part of the figure. Without a Nintendo console that reads amiibo, it is only a display piece.
If you do not play Smash Bros. or Fire Emblem, the in-game value is limited to generic rewards. And collectors who want the Japanese packaging should note that our box is the English-language version.
