amiibo Shulk is Nintendo’s figure of Shulk, the hero of Xenoblade Chronicles, in the Super Smash Bros. series line. Nintendo first released it in Japan on 19 February 2015. The figure shows Shulk holding the red Monado, the blade at the centre of his story, on the black base shared by the whole Smash Bros. series. Like every amiibo, it has an NFC chip in the base, so it works both as a display piece and as a key to in-game content on Nintendo consoles. The figure: Shulk and the Monado
The sculpt captures Shulk in an action stance with the Monado held ready, a pose fans of Xenoblade Chronicles will recognise at once. Touch the figure to the NFC touchpoint on the right Joy-Con or a Nintendo Switch Pro Controller and Shulk joins Super Smash Bros. Ultimate as a Figure Player. Nintendo explains that Figure Players learn as they fight, so the more battles they take part in, the more their style changes. You can also feed spirits to the Figure Player to boost its attack and defence, and send it on online journeys to battle other players’ amiibo. Because it learns from how you train it, each trained amiibo Shulk ends up different.
The Monado look in Xenoblade Chronicles 3
The most specific bonus is in Xenoblade Chronicles 3. Nintendo’s amiibo page for the game says scanning amiibo Shulk lets you change the sword of Noah’s Swordfighter class to look like the Monado. Nintendo adds that this feature also unlocks when you complete the game, so the figure gives you the look early rather than exclusively. Scanning any amiibo in Xenoblade Chronicles 3 can also give items useful on your adventure. For Xenoblade fans, amiibo Shulk is the figure that links the original hero to the newest chapter.
Other games and compatibility notes
Many Nintendo games accept any amiibo and give general rewards, so amiibo Shulk can also be scanned in titles that read all amiibo, such as The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom and Fire Emblem: Three Houses, where the reward is generic rather than Shulk-themed. Nintendo notes that some games may need a software update before amiibo work, and that functions differ from game to game.
