The Xiaomi Smart Projector L1 is a compact 1080p home projector with a smart TV system built in, auto focus, automatic keystone correction and a pair of Dolby Audio speakers. Its brightness is 200 ISO lumens, and that number decides more about how you will use it than any other: it is a projector for evenings and darkened rooms, not for a sunlit living room at midday.

What the Xiaomi Smart Projector L1 Is
The Xiaomi Smart Projector L1 (model XMTYY03FMG) uses an LCD light engine with a native 1920 × 1080 resolution and supports playback of 4K video files, which it displays at 1080p. It projects an image from 40 to 120 inches, and Xiaomi recommends 60 to 100 inches for the best result. The body measures 118 × 142 × 176 mm and weighs 1.2 kg, small enough to move between the living room and a bedroom.
Xiaomi also sells the Xiaomi Smart Projector L1 Pro, a different model with its own specifications; the figures here apply to the L1 only.
200 ISO Lumens: What It Means for Daytime Use
Xiaomi rates the Xiaomi Smart Projector L1 at 200 ISO lumens, backed by an SGS luminous flux certification. ISO lumens are measured to a standard method, so the figure is not an exaggerated light-source number. Still, 200 ISO lumens is modest. In a room with daylight coming through the windows, the picture will look pale and low in contrast, and dark film scenes will be hard to follow.
For daytime viewing, close blackout curtains or blinds and keep the image smaller, around 60 to 80 inches, since a smaller image concentrates the same light and looks brighter. In the evening with the lights off, the Xiaomi Smart Projector L1 can fill the larger sizes comfortably. A white or grey projection screen also looks better than a painted wall.
Android TV, Google Cast and Netflix
Xiaomi’s spec sheet lists Android TV OS as the operating system, while its product page promotes the Google TV catalogue of 400,000+ movies and shows across 10,000+ apps. You get Google Assistant through a button on the Bluetooth remote (not available in every language or country) and Google Cast for sending videos and photos from a phone or tablet to the Xiaomi Smart Projector L1.
Xiaomi does not state Netflix support on its L1 product or spec pages, so we do not promise a native Netflix app on this projector. If Netflix is the main reason you are buying, check its availability before ordering or plan on a certified streaming device connected to the projector.
Auto Focus, Keystone and Screen Fit
Moving a projector usually means refocusing and straightening the image by hand. The Xiaomi Smart Projector L1 does both automatically: auto focus sharpens the picture quickly after the projector is moved, and omnidirectional automatic keystone correction squares up the image when the projector sits at an angle to the wall.
An AI obstacle-avoidance feature shifts the image around objects such as a picture frame or a light switch, and auto screen alignment fits the picture to a projection screen. Xiaomi notes that obstacle avoidance does not guarantee every obstacle will be avoided. The fully sealed optical engine keeps dust away from the internal optics, which helps the image stay clean over years of use.
Throw Distance, Sound and Hardware
With a 1.2:1 throw ratio, the image width equals the projector’s distance from the wall divided by 1.2. By that formula, a 60-inch image needs about 1.6 m, 80 inches about 2.1 m, 100 inches about 2.7 m and 120 inches about 3.2 m. These are our calculations from Xiaomi’s throw ratio, so allow a little extra space.
Sound comes from two 3W full-range speakers with Dolby Audio, and Xiaomi rates operating noise at 30 dB(A) or lower. Inside the Xiaomi Smart Projector L1 is an MT9630 chip with 2GB of DDR3 memory and 16GB of eMMC storage, plus dual-band Wi-Fi (802.11 a/b/g/n/ac) and Bluetooth 5.0. It draws up to 72W from its 19V power adapter and 0.5W or less in standby.
Who This Is Not For
If you want to watch in a bright room during the day without curtains, the 200 ISO lumens rating will disappoint, and a TV is the better choice. The two 3W speakers are fine for a bedroom but thin for a large majlis; connect a soundbar or Bluetooth speaker for films.
Storage is 16GB, so you cannot install many large apps at once. The projector has no built-in battery and needs mains power, and Xiaomi’s spec sheet does not list its port layout, so check the rear panel in the product photos if you plan to connect a console or a laptop.
