Description

The Nebula P1 is a portable Full HD projector from Anker’s soundcore Nebula line, and its big idea is easy to see: the two speakers that sit on top of the body lift off and play wirelessly, so you can place them left and right of the picture for real stereo. Anker calls it the world’s first portable projector with detachable speakers. Inside you get 650 ANSI lumens, 1080p resolution, Google TV with official Netflix, real-time autofocus and keystone correction, all on a 130° dual-arm gimbal with a carry handle. It runs from mains power through a 100–240 V adapter, so it is ready for UAE sockets.

Nebula P1 speakers: lift them off and spread the sound

Most portable projectors fire their sound from the same box that throws the picture, which usually means it comes from behind your head. On the Nebula P1 the two speakers dock on top of the projector and detach in seconds. Anker’s Japanese spec sheet rates them at 10 W each, 20 W in total, with Dolby Audio, and soundcore describes the pair as true 2.0 stereo.

Each speaker has its own battery. Anker quotes up to 20 hours of wireless playback and about 3 hours for a full charge. They charge automatically when you put them back on the projector, which Anker recommends, or by USB-C. A small LED shows red while charging and green when full. When you mount the projector on a ceiling, Anker says to take the speakers off.

Picture quality on the Nebula P1

The Nebula P1 uses an LED light source and a native 1920 × 1080 resolution. soundcore rates it at 650 ANSI lumens and describes that brightness as calibrated for evening use, which is the honest way to read it: this is a projector for a dim living room or an outdoor screen after sunset, not for a bright majlis at midday. Anker lists 124% Rec.709 colour coverage and a 400:1 contrast ratio.

Picture size runs up to 180 inches. Anker’s quick start guide gives the distances: about 1.59 m for a 60-inch image, 2.13 m for 80 inches, 2.66 m for 100 inches, 3.19 m for 120 inches and 4.0 m for 150 inches. A 100-inch picture from under three metres fits most UAE apartments.

Gimbal, autofocus and setup in under a minute

The body hangs between two arms that tilt through 130°, so you can aim at a wall, a screen or the ceiling without books under the base. soundcore says the gimbal holds its angle without drift or wobble. Once you set it down, real-time autofocus, keystone correction and obstacle avoidance adjust the image automatically, and screen fit sizes it to a projection screen. Anker’s spec table lists vertical and horizontal keystone, each in automatic or manual mode.

Thanks to the built-in handle, soundcore says you can move the Nebula P1 and set it up in under a minute. The body measures about 284 × 124 × 130 mm without the handle and weighs about 2.4 kg, according to Anker. A tripod socket underneath accepts a stand or a ceiling mount (sold separately).

Google TV, Netflix and inputs on the Nebula P1

Google TV is built in, with access to more than 400,000 movies and shows and official Netflix, so there is no streaming stick to plug in. You need a Google account and an internet connection for the first setup, and Anker warns that the first start installs a firmware update that can take from tens of minutes to about an hour. Google Cast and screen mirroring are supported for phones.

Anker’s guide lists HDMI, USB-A, an AUX output for headphones or external speakers, a USB-C power input, a USB-C port for charging the speakers and a reset button. A remote control with two AAA batteries is included.

Power: no battery inside, 100–240 V adapter in the box

The Nebula P1 has no built-in battery. It must be plugged in, using the supplied AC adapter and USB-C to USB-C cable. Anker’s quick start guide rates the adapter for 100–240 V at 50/60 Hz, which covers the UAE’s 220–240 V mains. If you use another charger, Anker asks for at least 100 W (20 V, 5 A) and a cable rated for at least 5 A; with anything weaker, the indicator light flashes red and the projector will not work normally.

For a desert camp or a beach night, soundcore pairs the P1 with the Anker SOLIX C300 DC power station (sold separately), which it says runs the projector for 3.5 to 3.7 hours with all features on.

Who This Is Not For

The Nebula P1 is not for daytime viewing in a bright room: 650 ANSI lumens is tuned for evenings. It is not a battery projector, so outdoors you need a socket or a power station. Anker’s quick start guide recommends an operating temperature of 0 to 25 °C, which makes it a better fit for air-conditioned rooms and cool winter evenings than for summer nights outside. It is 1080p, not 4K, and its 400:1 contrast is modest next to laser home-cinema projectors. Anker does not publish the throw ratio, noise level or light-source life.
