The Xiaomi Smart Camera C701 is the 4K model in Xiaomi’s indoor camera range, and the jump in resolution is the whole reason to pick it over the cheaper C100. An 8MP sensor behind an f/1.6 six-element lens gives you 3840 x 2160 footage, which is roughly four times the pixel count of a 1080p camera. In practice that is the difference between knowing that somebody walked through your living room and being able to tell who it was. We stock the Xiaomi C701 in the UAE and every unit ships with a one-year Totot warranty.

What the Xiaomi C701 actually does well
This is a motorised indoor camera. The head turns a full 360 degrees horizontally and tilts 109 degrees vertically, so a single unit mounted on a shelf or ceiling can sweep a whole room instead of staring at one corner of it. You drive it manually from the Xiaomi Home app, or you let the tracking follow a person or a pet across the frame.
The honest trade-off with any pan-and-tilt camera is that it only points one way at a time. A 360-degree specification describes what the motor can reach, not what the sensor sees at any given second. If somebody walks in behind the camera while it is facing the other way, the tracking has to catch up first. For a single room that is rarely an issue. For a large open-plan space, two fixed cameras will cover you more reliably than one moving camera.
The motor is also not silent. It is a soft whirr rather than a grind, but it is audible in a quiet bedroom at night, which matters if you were planning to put this beside a cot.
4K resolution on the Xiaomi C701, and what it costs you
Xiaomi publishes the Xiaomi C701 at 3840 x 2160 from an 8MP sensor, with an f/1.6 aperture and a 6P optical lens. The wide aperture is the part people overlook: it lets in more light than the f/2.0 and f/2.4 lenses common on budget cameras, which is what keeps a 4K image usable in a dim hallway rather than turning it into noise.
The cost is storage and bandwidth. 4K footage is around four times the file size of 1080p for the same length of recording, so a 256GB microSD card that would hold weeks of continuous 1080p will hold a fraction of that at full resolution. The same applies to live viewing: watching a 4K stream from outside the house pulls real data, so if you are on a limited mobile plan you will want to drop the app to a lower stream quality when you are away.
It also assumes a decent network. The Xiaomi C701 supports 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac/ax on both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz, so it can use the faster band, but 5 GHz does not travel through walls as well as 2.4 GHz. Mount it two rooms and a concrete wall away from the router and you will be on 2.4 GHz whether you planned to be or not.
AI detection on the Xiaomi C701: what it catches and what it misses
Xiaomi lists four detection types on the Xiaomi C701: human detection and tracking, pet detection and tracking, crying baby detection, and loud noise detection. All four run on the camera itself rather than in the cloud, which is why alerts arrive quickly and why the processing keeps working when your internet drops.
The pet detection is narrower than it sounds, and Xiaomi says so plainly: it works for cats and dogs. A rabbit, a bird or a tortoise will trigger ordinary motion alerts, not pet alerts. We would rather tell you that now than have you buy this for a parrot cage.
Crying-baby and loud-noise detection are the two features that turn this into a nursery monitor, and they are the two most likely to annoy you in the first week. Every camera with sound detection over-triggers until you tune the sensitivity, because a vacuum cleaner, a door slam and a television argument all register as loud noise. Budget an evening in the app settings, not five minutes.
Xiaomi C701 night vision, audio and privacy
Night vision uses 940nm infrared rather than the more common 850nm, and the practical difference is visible: 940nm emitters do not produce the faint red glow you see on cheaper cameras, so the unit does not announce itself in a dark bedroom. Xiaomi rates the range at 10 metres, which is a generous living room and nothing more. Point it down a long villa corridor and the far end will be dark.
Infrared and glass do not mix. If you aim the Xiaomi C701 through a window at night, the IR light bounces straight back off the pane and washes out the image. That is physics rather than a fault, and it applies to every IR camera, but it catches people out often enough to be worth stating.
Two-way audio runs through a large-diameter box speaker and a noise-cancelling microphone, so you can hold an actual conversation rather than shout one-way instructions. On the privacy side Xiaomi describes four layers: a dedicated security chipset, timed lens shielding, local on-device processing for the AI features, and encrypted transmission. Note the wording on the shielding: Xiaomi publishes a timed shielding function, not a manual sliding shutter like the one on the C100. If a physical slide-across cover is what you want, the C100 has it and this model does not.
Storage options and running costs for the Xiaomi C701
Recordings can go to a microSD card from 8GB to 256GB, to network-attached storage on your own drive, or to Xiaomi cloud storage. The card slot is the cheapest route and the one most people use, but the card is not in the box, so add one to your order if you do not already have a spare.
NAS is the option worth knowing about if you already own a network drive, because it gives you unlimited retention with no monthly fee and keeps footage inside your own home. Cloud storage is offered as a separate Xiaomi service on Xiaomi’s own terms; we do not resell it and we do not include it, so treat it as an optional extra rather than part of the purchase.
One practical note on cards: continuous 4K recording writes constantly, and ordinary microSD cards are not built for that. A card rated for video surveillance or endurance use will outlast a standard one by a wide margin in this camera.
Who the Xiaomi C701 is not for
It is not an outdoor camera. Xiaomi rates it for -10C to 40C and publishes no IP weather rating for it, and 40C is a normal afternoon in the UAE from May onwards. On a balcony, in a garage without air conditioning, or anywhere in direct sun, this is the wrong product and you should be looking at the CW or BW outdoor series instead.
It is not a wireless camera. It runs on 5V 2A mains power, so every mounting position has to be within reach of a socket. If you wanted something to stick on a wall with no cable, this is not it.
It is not discreet. The motor moves, the head is visible, and it is 79 x 79 x 119 mm of white plastic on a shelf. Anybody in the room knows it is there and can see which way it is pointing. Some buyers want exactly that as a deterrent; if you wanted something unobtrusive, a fixed camera suits better.
And if 1080p is genuinely enough for you, the cheaper C100 will save you money and a lot of storage. The Xiaomi C701 earns its price only if you actually need to identify faces and detail, not just detect movement.
Buying the Xiaomi C701 in the UAE
We ship the Xiaomi Smart Camera C701 across the Emirates, including Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Sharjah and Ajman, and stock is held locally rather than drop-shipped from outside the country, so delivery times are measured in days and not weeks. The unit is a genuine retail item in Xiaomi packaging.
Warranty on this model is one year from Totot, covering manufacturing defects. The title of this product does not carry a TDRA registration, so there is no separate agent warranty attached to it, and we would rather state that clearly than let you assume a local agent coverage that does not exist. Our 14-day return policy applies to defective or non-conforming items.

FAQ
Is the Xiaomi C701 4K or 2K?
4K. Xiaomi publishes it at 3840 x 2160 from an 8MP sensor. Some listings online describe it as 2K, which is wrong, and we corrected our own title after checking Xiaomi’s specification page.
Can I use the Xiaomi C701 outside?
No. Xiaomi rates it from -10C to 40C and publishes no IP weather rating for it, so it is an indoor camera only. For outdoor use look at the Xiaomi CW or BW solar range instead.
Is a microSD card included?
No. Xiaomi lists the box contents as the camera, power adapter, a 2 metre charging cable, a mounting template, a wall mount kit, the user manual and the warranty card. You supply the card, and it accepts 8 GB to 256 GB.
Does it work without a memory card?
Yes. You can view the live feed and use the detection alerts with no card at all, and you can record to a NAS drive or to Xiaomi cloud storage instead. The card is only needed if you want recordings saved in the camera itself.
Does it connect to 5 GHz Wi-Fi?
Yes. It supports 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac/ax on both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz, so it works on either band. Bear in mind 5 GHz has shorter range through walls.
Does the night vision glow red?
No. It uses 940nm infrared rather than 850nm, and 940nm emitters are invisible to the eye, so there is no red ring in a dark room.
Will it detect my pet?
Only if it is a cat or a dog. Xiaomi states that pet detection and tracking covers cats and dogs, so other animals will trigger general motion alerts rather than pet alerts.
Does it have a sliding privacy cover?
Xiaomi publishes a timed lens shielding function for the Xiaomi C701, not a manual sliding shutter. The cheaper C100 is the model with the physical slide-across cover, so choose that one if a mechanical shutter is what you need.
Does it run on battery?
No. It needs 5V 2A mains power at all times, so plan the mounting position around a socket.
