The LG SQC1 Soundbar is a compact 2.1-channel system: a slim 66 cm bar for the left and right channels plus a separate wireless subwoofer for the low end. LG rates the pair at 160W RMS in total, with 100W of that coming from the subwoofer, and it connects to your TV with the optical cable LG includes in the box. It is a straightforward upgrade over built-in TV speakers, not a surround-sound or smart-speaker system.

What You Get with the LG SQC1 Soundbar

Two pieces: the main bar at 660 × 56 × 99 mm and 1.31 kg, and a subwoofer at 185.5 × 303 × 205 mm and 2.98 kg. LG counts three speakers in total across the system. At 56 mm tall, the bar sits in front of most TV stands without blocking the bottom of the screen, and the subwoofer is compact enough to tuck beside a TV unit.

In the box LG lists an optical cable, a remote control and a warranty card. The single remote handles volume, input and sound settings for the LG SQC1 Soundbar.

160W RMS and a Wireless Subwoofer

LG describes the output as 2.1-channel, 160W RMS total. That is a continuous-power rating rather than a peak figure, and LG attributes 100W of it to the wireless subwoofer; LG does not publish a separate figure for the bar’s two channels. The subwoofer is what makes the difference with films and football: explosions, crowd noise and bass lines gain weight that thin TV speakers cannot reproduce.

Because the subwoofer connects wirelessly to the bar, it only needs a power socket. Place it on the floor near a wall or corner for fuller bass, or further from the wall if the bass sounds boomy in a small room.

Dolby Digital and Sound Modes

The LG SQC1 Soundbar decodes Dolby Digital, the format used by most TV broadcasts, streaming apps and DVDs. LG lists two sound-effect settings: Standard and Bass Blast. Standard keeps the tuning neutral for dialogue and news, while Bass Blast lifts the low end for action films, games and music. LG’s specification sheet does not list Dolby Atmos or DTS:X.

Connecting to Your TV and Phone

LG lists three ways in: one optical input, one USB port and Bluetooth 4.0 with the SBC codec. The optical cable is the main connection to your TV. Once it is plugged in, set your TV’s audio output to the optical or external speaker option and the TV sound will play through the bar and subwoofer.

Bluetooth lets you stream music from a phone, tablet or laptop directly to the LG SQC1 Soundbar. LG’s sheet shows SBC support and marks AAC as not supported, so streaming quality is standard Bluetooth rather than higher-bitrate audio.

Power Use

LG rates the main unit at 18W and the subwoofer at 24W in use, with each dropping to 0.5W or less when switched off. That is low for a system with a powered subwoofer, so leaving the LG SQC1 Soundbar connected to the TV all day adds little to your electricity bill.

Who This Is Not For

LG’s specification sheet lists no HDMI port, so there is no HDMI ARC or eARC: you use the optical cable, and one TV remote will not necessarily control the bar’s volume on every TV. There is no Wi-Fi, AirPlay, Chromecast or voice assistant. Anyone wanting Dolby Atmos height effects or true rear surround speakers needs a larger system. LG has also marked the SQC1 as discontinued on its US site, so it will not receive new features. For a simple 2.1 upgrade on a budget, though, those gaps may not matter.
