Valkyria Chronicles Remastered PS4 – Tactical RPG with BLiTZ Battle System, Painterly CANVAS Graphics, All Previously Released DLC – Retail Disc

The Valkyria Chronicles Remastered PS4 disc brings SEGA’s acclaimed tactical role-playing game to PlayStation 4. The original launched on PS3, and this remastered edition arrived on PS4 on 17 May 2016 in North America, according to the PlayStation Blog, with the European PlayStation Store listing 31 May 2016. The genre mixes strategy, RPG and action: you command infantry and tanks in turn-based battles across a fictional wartime Europe. SEGA’s CANVAS graphics engine gives it a painterly, hand-drawn look, and the European store listing says all previously released DLC is included.

Gallia Under Fire in 1935 E.C.

The year is 1935 E.C. According to the official PlayStation Store description, the Autocratic East Europan Imperial Alliance, known as the Empire, is at war with the Atlantic Federation over a precious resource called Ragnite. As the Empire sweeps across the continent, it threatens the small, neutral Principality of Gallia, which is rich in Ragnite. You follow Lieutenant Welkin Gunther, who returns home from university just as the invasion begins, and Squad 7 of the Gallian Militia as they fight to defend their country. The PlayStation Blog introduces key characters including Alicia, captain of the Bruhl Town Watch, Welkin’s sister Isara, and the family’s prototype tank, Edelweiss. SEGA also highlights mystical elements tied to the extinct Valkyrur race and the history of Europa, which slowly come to light as the story unfolds.

BLiTZ Tactics and Permanent Losses

Battles use SEGA’s BLiTZ tactical battle system, and the ESRB describes the game as a turn-based tactical RPG. Its rating summary outlines the flow: commanding infantry and armoured units, firing weapons, using healing items, claiming flag points and moving tanks through city streets. The PlayStation Blog stresses that the strategy RPG formula is elegant rather than overwhelming, while still offering many tactical options. It also explains that death on the battlefield is permanent, which gives every decision weight. Even minor members of Squad 7 have their own personalities, so losing one matters. The CANVAS engine renders it all in bright, sketch-like colours that SEGA enhanced for PS4. Careful positioning, smart use of tanks and patience are what win battles here.

Single-Player Campaign and Included DLC

Valkyria Chronicles Remastered is a single-player game for 1 player, and the ESRB lists no interactive online elements. The full campaign plays offline. The European PlayStation Store description states that all previously released DLC is included. The store also notes optional in-game purchases and DUALSHOCK 4 vibration support. No PlayStation Plus subscription is needed to play the campaign. With no online component, the game is unaffected by server shutdowns, and you can play the campaign at your own pace from start to finish.

Retail Disc, Region and PS5

You receive a new, factory-sealed retail disc of Valkyria Chronicles Remastered for PS4. PS4 games are region-free, so the disc plays on any PS4 console. The PlayStation Store notes the game is playable on PS5, though some PS4 features may be absent; you need a PS5 with a disc drive. Delivered across the UAE in up to 3 business days, free on orders from AED 300.

Who This Is Not For

This is a remaster of a game first released on PS3 in 2008, so the core design and presentation are from that era. Battles are turn-based and slow-paced, not real-time action. There is no multiplayer. The European store lists English only. It is rated PEGI 16 for violence and ESRB Teen, with themes of war and permanent character deaths.
