The Shaq Fu A Legend Reborn PS4 disc holds the side-scrolling beat ’em up from developer Big Deez Productions, published by Wired Productions and Mad Dog Games and released on PS4 in June 2018 (5 June 2018 according to Wired Productions). Shaquille O’Neal himself voices the hero, a martial artist who leaves his village to stop demons disguised as celebrities. It is a comedy action game for 1 player, rated PEGI 12, built around combos, power-ups and boss fights.
Shaq Fu A Legend Reborn PS4: Table of Contents
A Kung Fu Orphan Against Celebrity Demons
According to the PlayStation Store description, you play as Shaq Fei Hung, a young orphan trained in martial arts in a rural Chinese village. When demonic celebrities set out to enslave humanity, he has to leave home and fight his way to them. The tone is a parody from start to finish: the villains are outlandish versions of famous faces, and the jokes lean on pop culture, crude humour and over-the-top situations. Wired Productions describes a journey to locations around the world, ending in battles against eccentric celebrity bosses who each have their own special skills. Shaquille O’Neal voices the hero, and the store page also mentions a rap track from Shaq. Do not expect a serious martial arts drama. The story exists to set up fights and gags, and it does that in a loud, silly style.
Classic Side-Scrolling Brawling
Shaq Fu: A Legend Reborn is a side-scrolling beat ’em up. You walk from left to right through each stage, clearing waves of enemies with punches, kicks and martial arts moves. Wired Productions highlights combos, power-ups and the option to use each environment against your enemies, so objects and hazards in a level can become part of a fight. The official description says players who learn to chain strong combos are rewarded. Each stage builds up to a boss battle against a celebrity villain with special skills, and those fights ask you to learn attack patterns rather than just mash buttons. The PlayStation Store text also mentions transformations: at certain moments Shaq can turn into a mech suit or a giant cactus to wipe out groups of enemies. Sessions are short and easy to pick up, in the style of arcade brawlers.
Players, Languages and PS4 Features
The PlayStation Store lists Shaq Fu: A Legend Reborn as a 1-player game. No online features are listed, so there is no online co-op, no versus mode and no need for PlayStation Plus. The listing gives English voice audio, with on-screen text in English, French, German, Italian, Spanish, Russian and Brazilian Portuguese. Arabic is not listed. There is no PS VR support. All stages and bosses are on the disc, so you can play the full campaign offline from the first stage to the last.
Retail Disc, PS4 and PS5
This is a new, sealed retail PS4 disc. PS4 games are region-free, so it plays on any PS4, PS4 Slim or PS4 Pro. Sony’s store page states the game is playable on PS5, though some PS4 features may be missing and you need a PS5 with a disc drive. Delivered across the UAE in up to 3 business days, free on orders from AED 300.
Who This Is Not For
If you want a long game or co-op brawling with a friend, look elsewhere: it is a 1-player beat ’em up with no local or online multiplayer. The humour is crude parody that will not suit everyone, and ESRB lists drug references and sexual themes. Arabic is not a supported language. The 2D brawling formula is simple, with little depth beyond combos and bosses.
