MOUSE: P.I. For Hire is a first-person shooter that looks like a 1930s cartoon and plays like a hard-boiled detective story. Developed by Fumi Games and published by PlaySide, it launched digitally on 16 April 2026, and the physical PS5 disc followed on 10 July 2026. You play Jack Pepper, a private investigator digging into a conspiracy in the city of Mouseburg, and everything on screen is hand-drawn in black-and-white rubber hose animation. The box we sell carries a PEGI 16 rating, which matters more than the cute art suggests.

What Kind of Game MOUSE: P.I. For Hire Is
Despite the detective framing, this is an action game first. Sony’s PlayStation listing describes it as an action-packed first-person shooter that combines black-and-white rubber hose visuals inspired by 1930s cartoons with noir detective gameplay. You investigate, but you mostly shoot your way through the people who do not want the case solved.
PlaySide sets the scene as Mouseburg’s seedy underbelly, full of grimy gangs and crooked cops. The case-solving gives the levels a reason to exist; the combat is what fills them.
Levels, Weapons and Movement
The PlayStation listing promises over 20 noir-infused levels and a fully loaded arsenal of over ten unique weapons. Movement borrows from Metroidvania design, with wall-runs, grappling hooks and double jumps that open up routes as you progress, so levels are more vertical than the old-cartoon look implies.
Combat is fast. Enemies are cartoon gangsters and creatures that react in exaggerated, animated ways when hit, and the screenshots in our gallery show the kind of oversized, hand-drawn guns you carry. The DualSense vibration function is supported on PS5.
MOUSE: P.I. For Hire Art, Voice and Music
The whole game is drawn in the hand-animated rubber hose style of early 1930s cartoons, entirely in black and white. It is the reason most people notice the game, and it holds together across characters, enemies and the city map.
PlaySide cast Troy Baker as Jack Pepper. The soundtrack is original big band jazz by composer Patryk Scelina, with a collaboration from the electro-swing group Caravan Palace, according to the publisher. Spoken audio is in English only.
The PS5 Physical Edition of MOUSE: P.I. For Hire
This is the standard PS5 disc, the edition with the PEGI 16 label printed on the front and the Fumi Games and PlaySide logos in the corner. PlaySide also sells a Mouseburg deluxe physical edition with a vinyl record, poster, comic and trading cards; that is a different, larger box and not what this listing ships.
PlaySide confirmed the game does not come to PS4, so this disc needs a PlayStation 5. Pick a PS5 with a disc drive, or a Digital Edition with Sony’s add-on drive fitted.
Who This Is Not For
Young children. The cartoon art looks like a Saturday morning show, but the box is rated PEGI 16 and the US listing is ESRB Teen for blood, mild language and violence.
Players who want a slow detective adventure. Clues and conversations exist, but the game is built around shooting and platforming, not puzzle-heavy investigation.
Anyone who needs Arabic or wants multiplayer. Sony lists thirteen on-screen languages without Arabic, and the game is single-player only.
