Armored Core VI Fires of Rubicon is the 2023 mech action game from FromSoftware, the studio behind Elden Ring, published with BANDAI NAMCO and released worldwide on 25 August 2023. This is the PlayStation 5 disc. You play an independent mercenary on Rubicon 3, a planet sealed off after a catastrophe, where corporations and resistance groups fight over a resurfaced substance called Coral. Armored Core VI PS5 is built around fast, highly mobile mechs that you assemble yourself, tough boss fights, a story with branching paths and multiple endings, and online PvP for when the campaign is done.

The story on Rubicon 3
Bandai Namco sets the scene half a century after disaster. Coral was discovered on the remote planet Rubicon 3 and was expected to push technology and communications forward, but instead it triggered a catastrophe that engulfed the planet in flames and formed what the game calls the Burning Star System. Now Coral has resurfaced on a contaminated, sealed-off world, and corporations and resistance groups are fighting to control it. As an independent mercenary you take contracts from different sides, and the jobs you choose shape where the story leads. Armored Core VI PS5 has branching paths and multiple endings, so a single run does not show everything.

Fast mech combat on land and in the air
The pace is the first thing that stands out. Your Armored Core can boost across the ground, climb into the air and fight in every direction at once, while the distance to the enemy keeps changing. Bandai Namco highlights the assault boost for closing gaps quickly, and using the terrain as cover when a heavier enemy opens fire. Missions mix open firefights with tight interiors, and Armored Core VI PS5 expects you to read each situation instead of standing still and trading shots. It feels closer to an aerial duel than to a slow tank game.

Build your own AC
Between missions you rebuild your machine in the garage. The game offers numerous parts across head, core, arms, legs and internal components, plus four weapon slots, and every choice changes weight, energy use and movement. A light build with short-range weapons plays like a different game from a heavy tank-leg build loaded with missiles. In Armored Core VI PS5, when a mission or boss keeps beating you, the answer is often a different build rather than just more practice, which makes the garage as important as your reflexes.

Boss fights in the FromSoftware style
FromSoftware is known for demanding encounters, and Armored Core VI PS5 keeps that reputation. Boss battles are large, multi-stage fights against machines and weapons far bigger than your AC, and they reward learning attack patterns and adjusting your loadout. The difficulty is real, but the mission structure gives you checkpoints and lets you change parts before retrying. Players who enjoyed Elden Ring or Sekiro will recognise the feeling of a boss that seems impossible until the build and timing finally click.

Online PvP
After the campaign, your custom AC can go online. Bandai Namco lists 1v1 and 3v3 online PvP battles, and later updates added Ranked Match with leaderboards and seasonal resets. Online play on PlayStation 5 requires an internet connection and a PlayStation Plus membership, while the single-player campaign does not. The PvP mode is where builds get tested hardest, because human opponents adapt far faster than mission enemies.
Who This Is Not For
Armored Core VI PS5 is not for players who want an easy, relaxed shooter: missions and especially bosses are hard and often need several attempts and build changes. There is no local split-screen or co-op campaign, and online PvP needs PlayStation Plus. Players who dislike tinkering with menus and stats may find the garage heavy going, and this disc is for PS5 only, so it will not run on PS4.
