Description

Atomic Heart PS4 drops you into an alternate 1955 where the Soviet Union cracked robotics decades ahead of schedule — then lost control of what it built. Developed by Mundfish and published worldwide by Focus Entertainment, this first-person shooter follows Major Sergey Nechayev, callsign P-3, into Facility 3826 on the exact morning every machine in the complex turns on the people who made it.

Facility 3826 and the 1955 That Never Happened

On the Atomic Heart, the game opens on a parade, not a battlefield. The USSR has apparently won the future: robots handle the labour, the cities gleam, and a new control system is days from going live. Within hours the illusion collapses. Mundfish built the setting around a specific tension — the propaganda posters stay bright and optimistic while the corridors behind them fill with blood, and that contrast is what gives the game its identity instead of another grey wasteland.

On the Atomic Heart, your handler is Dr. Dimitry Sechenov, the architect of the robot programme himself. The deeper you walk into Facility 3826, the harder it becomes to tell whether you are cleaning up an accident or helping to bury one. The writing leans into Soviet iconography, black humour and body horror in roughly equal measure, and it rarely explains itself politely.

Atomic Heart PS4 Combat: Glove Powers and Improvised Steel

On the Atomic Heart, combat here runs on two tracks at once. One hand carries conventional and improvised weapons — a fire axe early on, then shotguns, rifles and stranger prototypes. The other carries a polymer-charged glove that throws telekinesis, electric shock and freezing effects. The game constantly pushes you to combine the two rather than commit to a single style.

On the Atomic Heart, ammunition is deliberately tight. Most fights are won by staggering a group with a polymer ability, closing the gap, and finishing the job with melee before reinforcements arrive. Weapons, ammo, consumables and abilities are all crafted and upgraded from materials looted out in the world, so exploring properly feeds straight back into how hard the next encounter hits.

Kollektiv, NORA and the Machines That Hunt You

On the Atomic Heart, enemies split into two families: mechanical units built by the state, and organic experiments that were never supposed to leave the lab. Both are tied together by Kollektiv, a neural network that links ground and flying robots into one hivemind. Get spotted out in the open and the nearest factory begins shipping reinforcements toward your position, which is why hacking cameras and moving quietly is frequently smarter than opening fire.

On the Atomic Heart, crafting and upgrades run through NORA, a talking vending machine scattered across the map whose personality is best experienced first-hand rather than described. She is where salvage becomes firepower between fights, and where most players decide what kind of P-3 they want to be.

The Atomic Pass: Four Story Chapters

Mundfish supported the game long past launch with four expansions sold together as the Atomic Pass: Annihilation Instinct, Trapped in Limbo, Enchantment Under the Sea and Blood on Crystal. The last of them closes the story, sending P-3 and the Twin into the Crystal Complex for a final confrontation with CHAR-les. All four shipped on PlayStation 4 alongside the current-generation versions. Full details are on the official Focus Entertainment Atomic Heart page.

Playing on PS4, PS4 Pro and PS5

On the Atomic Heart, this listing is the physical PlayStation 4 disc. It runs on the original PS4 and on PS4 Pro, and it also plays on PS5 through backward compatibility — a sensible pick if you own a PS4 today and expect to upgrade later. Controls are built around the DualShock 4, with glove abilities mapped to the shoulder buttons so you can throw a power mid-swing without breaking rhythm.

FAQ – Atomic Heart PS4

Is Atomic Heart single-player only?

Yes. There is no multiplayer or co-op mode — the entire campaign is a solo experience built around P-3 and the mystery inside Facility 3826.

Does this disc include the DLC?

No. The standard PlayStation 4 disc contains the base game. The four Atomic Pass expansions are sold separately through the PlayStation Store.

Will the PS4 disc work on a PlayStation 5?

Yes, provided your PS5 has a disc drive. The PlayStation 4 version runs on PS5 through backward compatibility.

How long does the campaign take?

On the Atomic Heart, most players finish the main story in roughly 20 to 25 hours. Exploring side facilities, hunting crafting materials and clearing optional testing grounds pushes that noticeably higher.

Is it similar to BioShock?

The comparison comes up often and it is fair on the surface — a retro-futuristic utopia gone wrong, a hand that fires powers, an unreliable guide on the radio. Atomic Heart leans harder into open-world scavenging and melee than BioShock ever did.
