Smart Shooting with the Zhiyun Smooth Q3 and ZY Cami
Pair the gimbal with the ZY Cami app over Bluetooth and the Zhiyun Smooth Q3 becomes more than a stabilizer. SmartFollow 3.0 locks on to a person or object and keeps it in frame as it moves; a single press of the trigger selects the target. Gesture control lets you start tracking or recording from a distance with a hand sign, which is useful when you are the subject and nobody is holding the phone.
Zhiyun builds in 17 SmartMode templates that plan the camera moves for you, plus an instant Dolly Zoom, MagicClone Pano, panorama and time-lapse. ZY Cami also includes an editor with music, effects and filters, so a short clip can be finished on the phone.
Stabilisation Modes Explained
Zhiyun’s own Smooth-Q3 tutorial lists Pan Follow, Follow, Lock, POV, Vortex and PhoneGo. Lock keeps the phone pointing the same way however you move your hand, good for interviews and static product shots. Pan Follow turns left and right with you for natural walking shots, while Follow adds tilt for tracking subjects up and down stairs. POV and Vortex are the creative modes for rolling, spinning shots, and PhoneGo is the fastest-reacting mode for quick action and sudden turns.
Buttons and Controls on the Handle
Everything sits under your thumb. The power button is on the outer side of the handle; the joystick moves the phone in four directions; a dedicated photo/video button starts and stops recording; the mode button switches modes; and a zoom rocker on the left side changes focal length. The trigger on the back selects the SmartFollow target, and three quick taps on it flip the phone between landscape and portrait, so you can switch between YouTube and Reels framing without removing the phone.

The 4,300 K warm fill light flips through 180° and has three brightness levels; Zhiyun does not publish its lux output. Battery life is up to 15 hours maximum, 7 hours in Zhiyun’s standard figure, and a full charge takes 3 hours.
Who This Is Not For
The Zhiyun Smooth Q3 is not suitable for phones heavier than 280 g or thicker than 10 mm with a case. Zhiyun lists no built-in extension rod for the Smooth-Q3, so vloggers who want high selfie angles need a separate stick. If you carry the gimbal daily, the standard box has no bag or wrist strap, and the Combo is the better buy. And because tracking, gestures and templates run inside ZY Cami, people who want to stay in the phone’s native camera app get stabilisation only.
