Description

The DJI RS 3 Mini is DJI’s lightweight three-axis stabiliser for mirrorless cameras. It weighs 795 g in its portrait configuration, carries a tested payload of 0.4 to 2 kg, and DJI names the Sony A7 series with the 24-70mm F2.8 GM lens as an example of the camera and lens pairs it supports. It switches to vertical shooting without extra accessories, starts and stops recording over Bluetooth, and runs for up to 10 hours on its built-in battery, according to DJI.

What the DJI RS 3 Mini Is Built For

Handheld footage from a mirrorless camera shakes with every step, and in-body stabilisation only goes so far once you walk, turn or climb stairs. A three-axis gimbal holds the camera level on pan, tilt and roll with brushless motors, so a walking shot looks like it was filmed on a slider. The DJI RS 3 Mini brings that to solo creators who want a rig light enough to carry all day.

DJI pairs those motors with its third-generation RS stabilisation algorithm and a maximum controlled rotation speed of 360° per second on all three axes. In practice the DJI RS 3 Mini suits travel films, weddings, real-estate walk-throughs, product shots and social videos shot by one person.

Payload: Which Cameras the DJI RS 3 Mini Carries

DJI quotes a tested payload of 0.4 to 2 kg. That range covers most full-frame and APS-C mirrorless bodies with a standard zoom or a prime lens; DJI’s own example is a Sony A7-series body with the 24-70mm F2.8 GM. Before buying, check your exact body and lens on DJI’s RS series compatibility list, because the balance point of a long or front-heavy lens matters as much as its weight.

Weight and size: 795 g in portrait mode and 850 g in horizontal shooting mode, plus about 128 g for the extended grip and tripod. Folded, the DJI RS 3 Mini measures 323 × 195 × 98 mm, small enough for a backpack side pocket or a cabin bag.

Native Vertical Shooting Without Extra Parts

Vertical video for Reels, TikTok and Shorts usually means cropping a horizontal frame or buying a separate bracket. On this gimbal you move the quick-release plate to the vertical arm and the camera sits in portrait orientation, keeping the full sensor resolution in the 9:16 frame. Switching back to horizontal is the reverse step, with no tools or extra plates.

The roll axis covers −95° to +240°, the tilt axis −110° to +210°, and pan rotates a full 360° continuously, which also leaves room for 3D Roll 360 spins and low underslung angles.

Camera Control: Bluetooth Shutter and Cable

After a one-time pairing, the DJI RS 3 Mini controls supported cameras over Bluetooth, with no cable between gimbal and camera. A half press on the camera control button triggers autofocus, a single press starts or stops recording, and a long press takes a photo. The camera reconnects automatically after the first pairing, and one camera connects at a time.

For cameras that need a wired link, DJI includes an L-shaped multi-camera control cable with USB-C, 30 cm long. A 1.4-inch full-colour touchscreen on the handle shows settings and modes, and a NATO port takes accessories such as a briefcase handle, a light or a microphone.

Modes, Battery and Charging

The M button cycles three gimbal modes: Pan Follow, Pan and Tilt Follow, and FPV, with 3D Roll 360 and Custom modes also available, plus selfie, sport, underslung and flashlight positions through button shortcuts. In the DJI Ronin app you get Panorama, Timelapse and Track.

The built-in 2450 mAh battery (17.64 Wh) runs for up to 10 hours, a figure DJI measures with the gimbal balanced and stationary, so expect less while moving. A full charge takes about 2.5 hours at 5 V / 2 A over USB-C, and the gimbal can be used while charging, for example from a power bank on a long event.

Who This Is Not For

Anyone with a heavy setup: above 2 kg, such as a cinema camera, a large telephoto or a matte box rig, you need DJI’s larger RS gimbals. Filmmakers who rely on the RS ecosystem: DJI lists focus motors, the LiDAR Range Finder, the image transmitter, ActiveTrack and the 3D Focus System as not compatible with the DJI RS 3 Mini, and its quick-release plate is specific to this model.

The battery is built into the grip and cannot be swapped, fast charging is not supported, and the gimbal is neither waterproof nor dustproof, so rain and sand call for care. DJI also states software support for this model until 31 December 2026.
