The DJI Osmo Mobile 8 is DJI’s 3-axis stabiliser for smartphones, and its headline change is a pan axis that turns a full 360° without limit. Your phone attaches with a magnetic clamp, a 215 mm extension rod and a 67 mm tripod are built into the handle, and the box includes the Multifunctional Module, a small clip-on unit that adds people and pet tracking, a fill light and audio from DJI Mic transmitters. DJI rates the battery at about 10 hours with the gimbal balanced and still, and the whole set, with clamp and module, weighs about 370 g.

360° unlimited pan and smooth movement
On the DJI Osmo Mobile 8 the pan axis rotates continuously, so you can spin around a room, follow someone walking a full circle around you or build a 360° sweep without the gimbal stopping at an end point. DJI lists the controllable range as unlimited on pan, -67° to 245° on roll and -20° to 40° on tilt, with a maximum control speed of 120°/s. The three motors cancel hand shake and footsteps mechanically, before the image reaches the sensor, which keeps walking shots steadier than phone stabilisation alone.
Tracking with or without the DJI app
Pair an iPhone by tapping it on the gimbal’s NFC area and the DJI Osmo Mobile 8 works with Apple DockKit, so the native Camera app and DockKit-compatible apps can track faces without DJI Mimo. DJI requires iPhone 12 or later on iOS 18.5 or later, excluding iPhone SE (3rd generation) and iPhone 16e, and the Multifunctional Module must be removed in this mode. With the module attached, tracking of people, cats and dogs works in native and third-party camera apps on both iPhone and Android. Android phones can also pair by NFC, which opens DJI Mimo automatically.
The Multifunctional Module: light and audio
The module clips onto the gimbal and does three jobs. It tracks subjects, it has a fill light with a maximum of 40 lux at 0.6 m and a colour temperature adjustable from 2500 to 6000 K, and it receives audio directly from DJI Mic 3, DJI Mic Mini or DJI Mic 2 transmitters. The audio reaches the phone through the 15 cm USB-C cable in the box. iPhones with a Lightning port need a separate USB-C to Lightning cable for this. The light is soft, which helps faces in a dim café or at night, but it does not replace a proper video light for larger scenes.
Extension rod, tripod and size
Pull the rod out to as much as 215 mm for higher angles, group selfies or shots over a crowd, then fold it back into the handle. The 67 mm tripod is also built in, so you can stand the DJI Osmo Mobile 8 on a table for time-lapses, live streams or a video call without extra accessories. Folded, the gimbal measures 190 × 95 × 46 mm; unfolded it is 288 × 107 × 96 mm. DJI supports phones from 170 to 300 g, 6.9 to 10 mm thick and 67 to 84 mm wide, which covers most current phones including large Pro Max and Ultra models, as long as the case keeps them inside those limits.
Battery life and charging
The 3,350 mAh battery gives about 10 hours when the gimbal is balanced, level and still with no accessories. DJI is clear that real use is shorter: about 5 hours with tracking on and the fill light off, and about 4 hours with tracking on and the light at full power. Charging your phone from the gimbal shortens it further. A full recharge takes about 2.5 hours with a 10 W USB-C charger, and the gimbal can be used while charging. A USB-C output on the roll axis can top up your phone through the short cable, which helps on long streams.
Who This Is Not For
The DJI Osmo Mobile 8 does not suit phones lighter than 170 g, heavier than 300 g or thicker than 10 mm with their case. DockKit tracking needs iPhone 12 or later on iOS 18.5 and excludes iPhone SE (3rd generation) and iPhone 16e. Lightning iPhones need an extra cable for module audio. With tracking and the fill light on, battery life falls to about 4 to 5 hours, and at about 370 g it is heavier than holding the phone alone. It is not water resistant and works from 0 to 40°C.
