Xiaomi Robot Vacuum S20 vs S20+
The Xiaomi Robot Vacuum S20 is the base model of the pair. It has a single mop pad on a frame, a 2-in-1 dust and water box, and a small charging dock. The S20+ is a separate product with 6000 Pa suction and dual rotating mops that lift, and it is listed separately in our store.
That split matters when comparing prices. If you see an S20 for noticeably less than an S20+, it is not a discount on the same robot. The S20 gives you laser mapping and a proper app at the lower price, and gives up the rotating mops and the higher suction figure.
LDS Laser Navigation and the App
The Xiaomi Robot Vacuum S20 uses an LDS laser distance sensor with 360-degree detection on the top of the robot. Xiaomi describes the result as fewer missed spots, fewer repeated areas and less getting lost, with more precise positioning and more stable operation than sensor-only robots.
The map is what unlocks the app features. Xiaomi lists room renaming, customised zone cleaning, virtual walls and no-go areas, scheduled cleaning, real-time progress and over-the-air updates. In a UAE apartment that means you can keep the robot away from a pet bowl or a charging cable corner and send it to the kitchen alone after dinner.
Voice control works through Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant, both of which Xiaomi lists as compatible.
5000 Pa Suction, Measured at the Inlet
Xiaomi rates the Xiaomi Robot Vacuum S20 at up to 5000 Pa. The footnote explains the method: a vacuum gauge with a 0 to 35 kPa range and 0.01 kPa precision measured suction at the inlet of a fully charged robot, and the highest result was 5000 Pa, from Shanchuan Laboratory. That is a peak, not an average across a whole clean.
Xiaomi lists three suction power modes. The top mode is for rugs and heavier debris; the lower modes keep noise and battery use down on tiles and marble, which is where most daily cleaning in the Gulf happens.
Mopping: 270 ml Tank and a Y-Shaped Route
The Xiaomi Robot Vacuum S20 carries a 2-in-1 box that holds a 400 ml dustbin and a 270 ml water tank. Xiaomi measured both: the tank at 270 ml or more, with up to 5 percent manufacturing variation, and the dustbin at 400 ml or more.
Mopping follows a Y-shaped route, which Xiaomi says imitates hand mopping by passing over the same area in two directions. The mop pad sits on a frame that clips on and off. It does not rotate and it does not lift over rugs, so remove the mop frame before cleaning carpeted rooms.
Size, Battery and the Charging Dock
The robot measures 325 mm across and 98 mm tall and weighs 3.5 kg, per Xiaomi’s specification sheet. The extra height compared with sensor-only robots comes from the laser turret, so check the gap under your sofa and bed before relying on it to clean there.
The Xiaomi Robot Vacuum S20 battery is 3200 mAh nominal (2900 mAh rated), with 45 W rated power. Xiaomi does not publish a runtime figure for the S20 on its specification or product pages, so we do not quote one.
The charging dock measures 146 x 122 x 98 mm and takes 20 V 0.6 A from the supplied power adapter. The dock charges the robot only: there is no self-emptying bag and no mop washing station. Xiaomi’s specification page does not list the adapter’s mains input.
Who This Is Not For
Not for anyone who wants to stop emptying the bin. The Xiaomi Robot Vacuum S20 has no auto-empty station, so the 400 ml dustbin needs emptying by hand every run or two.
Not for homes with lots of rugs and a mopping habit. The mop pad does not lift, so you have to remove it before the robot crosses carpet, or set no-go zones around rugs on mopping days.
Not for very low furniture. At 98 mm, the laser turret adds height, and some low sofas and beds will be out of reach.
Not for buyers comparing runtimes. Xiaomi does not publish one for this model, so if battery life is the deciding figure, choose a model where it is stated.
