Suction, brushes and hair
Xiaomi lists up to 20,000Pa of air pressure from the fan of the Xiaomi Robot Vacuum 5 Pro and notes that results vary with the test environment. The robot uses an anti-tangle side brush and a dual-blade main brush, and Xiaomi quotes a hair pick-up rate that can exceed 99% after two passes in its standard test. That is useful in homes with long hair or a pet, though Xiaomi itself says actual anti-tangle performance varies. Xiaomi measures the side brush reaching inside corners with 0mm distance in its lab, thanks to a dual-extension design that pushes the side brush and mop outwards along walls.
Navigation, low furniture and obstacles
Mapping is done with laser navigation. The dToF radar on top is retractable: when the Xiaomi Robot Vacuum 5 Pro meets a sofa or bed with clearance higher than 9.5cm, it lowers the radar and drives underneath. Xiaomi notes those low areas are skipped while mapping and cleaned after the standard areas. For obstacle avoidance Xiaomi fits an RGB camera, two infrared cameras and an infrared 3D dot projector, and says the robot recognises about 200 common obstacles in eight categories, tested by TÜV Rheinland, and up to 47 common stains. A 5MP HD front camera allows live viewing in the app, but the video function is off by default and must be enabled in Xiaomi Home.
Mopping and carpet handling
Two rotating mop pads do the wet cleaning, and one of them extends to reach the wall; Xiaomi reports a 0mm minimum mop-to-wall distance in internal tests. On carpet the pads lift automatically by up to 15mm. For long-pile carpet Xiaomi recommends turning on the Carpet avoidance mode rather than relying on the lift alone. The 4L clean water tank in the station is enough, according to Xiaomi, to wet-mop more than 400m² of actual cleaning area under its test settings, so in most apartments you refill it only every few runs.
What the omni station does
After cleaning, the Xiaomi Robot Vacuum 5 Pro returns to its station. The station washes the mop pads with water heated up to 80°C (Xiaomi measured the final rinse above 80°C at 25°C room temperature), self-cleans its scraper, and then dries the pads with hot air; Xiaomi states drying exceeds 99% after two hours. It also empties the robot into a 2.5L disposable bag, which Xiaomi says lasted over 75 days in a 120m² test home with daily cleaning, three people and one pet. The station draws 1600W while heating water, 530W while emptying dust and 85W while drying and charging, so plug it straight into a wall socket.
Battery, app and voice control
The robot has a 5200mAh nominal (4800mAh rated) battery. Xiaomi quotes up to 140 minutes of continuous cleaning in Vacuuming and Mopping, Standard mode, from a full charge; stronger suction settings shorten that. The Xiaomi Robot Vacuum 5 Pro is set up and controlled in the Xiaomi Home app, which needs Android 9.0 or iOS 12.0 and above. Voice control works with Amazon Alexa or Google Assistant through a compatible device, and Xiaomi notes Google Assistant is not available in every language or country. The robot weighs 3.97kg and measures Φ350 × 88mm.
Who This Is Not For
The Xiaomi Robot Vacuum 5 Pro is not for homes with high door thresholds or steps: Xiaomi lists obstacle crossing for vertical steps up to 20mm only. The station needs floor space of 260 × 360mm (470mm deep with the ramp extension fitted) and 572mm of height, which is a lot in a small apartment. Dust bags, mop pads, filters and brushes are consumables you will buy again. Long-pile rugs are best avoided with carpet avoidance mode, and like any camera-based robot it can still catch thin loose cables, so keep them off the floor.
