12-inch tubeless tyres and front suspension
Large 12-inch wheels roll over tile edges, expansion joints, kerb ramps and gravel paths more easily than small scooter wheels, and Xiaomi says they reduce the chance of getting stuck while improving traction. Being tubeless, there is no inner tube to pinch. At the front, the Xiaomi Electric Scooter 5 Plus uses dual-spring shock absorption with a maximum travel of 30mm, measured by Xiaomi on a testing machine with the shock fully compressed. Xiaomi does not list rear suspension, so the rear wheel relies on the tyre alone. For UAE riders, that means a calmer ride over interlocking paving in residential areas, while sharp potholes at speed are still felt through the deck.
Motor, three speed modes and hills
The Hall-effect brushless motor is rated at 400W, and Xiaomi measured 900W peak output on a dynamometer at 25±5°C. There are three riding modes: Pedestrian at up to 6km/h, Standard at up to 15km/h and Sport at up to 25km/h. On climbing, Xiaomi states that the Xiaomi Electric Scooter 5 Plus took a 20% slope from a standing start at 15km/h with a 75kg load and the battery at 70% (±10%), still above 6km/h after a 10m section. A heavier rider, a lower battery or a longer hill will reduce that performance, so treat 20% as a tested maximum, not an everyday climbing speed.
Range, battery and charging
Xiaomi rates the range at up to 60km, tested on a full charge with a 75±5kg load on a level road at a steady 15km/h, at 25±5°C and wind no stronger than 3m/s. Sport mode, a heavier rider, hills, summer heat and headwind all shorten real range. The battery is a 477.36Wh (10.2Ah) ternary lithium pack protected by a smart BMS with six protections, including over-charge, over-discharge, overheat and short-circuit. Charging takes approximately 9 hours with the supplied charger, which accepts 100–240V AC at 50–60Hz, so it works on UAE mains directly. Xiaomi lists a charging temperature of 0°C to 40°C, so charge it indoors rather than in a hot car park.
Brakes, TCS, lights and the Xiaomi Home app
Braking combines a front drum brake with a rear E-ABS electronic brake. Smart TCS anti-slip uses sensors and control software to improve traction on wet or slippery surfaces; Xiaomi notes that it must be switched on manually. Light sensors turn on the high-brightness headlight automatically in low light, and Xiaomi measured its beam at over 10m. A smart tail light flashes when you brake. In the Xiaomi Home app you can see remaining range and battery level, lock the motor, set assisted riding, check riding records, and enable Bluetooth scooter search and tyre pressure maintenance reminders, which appear only after you switch them on in settings.
Weight, load, rider limits and water resistance
The Xiaomi Electric Scooter 5 Plus weighs 26.6kg and is rated for a maximum load of 120kg, which Xiaomi verified with a static 7000N load on the deck. Xiaomi lists a rider height of 140–200cm and a rider age of 16–50 years. The whole scooter is rated IPX5 to IEC 60529:2013, tested by TÜV Rheinland, and Xiaomi rates the battery pack itself at IPX6. It works between -10°C and +40°C. Folding takes three steps: release the latch and push forward, fold the stem down, and hook the bell onto the rear. At 26.6kg, it is a scooter to wheel into a lift, not one to carry up several floors.
Who This Is Not For
The Xiaomi Electric Scooter 5 Plus is not for riders under 16, over 50 by Xiaomi’s stated range, or shorter than 140cm. It is not for anyone who must carry a scooter up stairs, because it weighs 26.6kg. Xiaomi lists no rear suspension, so riders who want suspension on both wheels should look elsewhere. IPX5 covers splashes, not riding through deep puddles or heavy rain. The seat is sold separately. And at 25km/h maximum it is a commuter scooter, not a performance one.
