Sony WH-1000XM5 Pink is the Smoky Pink version of Sony’s WH-1000XM5 over-ear headphones: a soft, dusty pink rather than a bright one. Sony calls this colour Smoky Pink, and the name fits: a muted, slightly greyed pink, closer to dusty rose than to bubblegum. The ear cups, headband and cushions follow the same shade, so the Sony WH-1000XM5 Pink looks soft and uniform rather than two-tone. It works well with white, grey, beige, denim and pastel outfits, and looks less formal than black without being loud. Light colours do show marks more easily: foundation, sunscreen or skin oil can leave a tint on the cushions over time. Noise cancelling and sound
Sony pairs its High-Resolution Noise Cancelling Processor QN1 with the Integrated Processor V1 to control eight microphones for noise cancelling, and the Auto NC Optimiser adjusts the effect to how you wear the headphones and to your surroundings. Ambient Sound mode lets outside sound in when you need it, for example at an airport gate or a shop counter. Inside the Sony WH-1000XM5 Pink is a dedicated 30 mm driver with a neodymium magnet in a closed dynamic design. Sony’s help guide lists the Sony WH-1000XM5 Pink battery per codec. With noise cancelling or Ambient Sound on: up to 30 hours on AAC, 28 hours on SBC and 26 hours on LDAC. With both off: 40, 38 and 36 hours. Talk time is up to 24 hours with noise cancelling on and 32 hours off. A full charge takes about 3.5 hours over USB-C. With a USB PD adapter rated 9 V / 2.3 A or more, a 3-minute charge gives about 3 hours of playback (Sony measured this at 25 to 35 °C); with a standard adapter, 3 minutes gives about 1 hour and 10 minutes gives about 5 hours. No wall adapter is included. DSEE Extreme, Speak-to-Chat and the equaliser shorten these times.
Calls, codecs and connection
For calls, the Sony WH-1000XM5 Pink uses four beamforming microphones with an AI noise reduction algorithm to pick out your voice in noisy places. Bluetooth 5.2 supports SBC, AAC and LDAC, and multipoint keeps the headphones connected to two devices at once, such as a phone and a laptop. iPhones do not support LDAC, so on an iPhone the headphones use AAC; LDAC is for compatible Android phones and players. The 1.2 m headphone cable keeps noise cancelling working when the headphones are switched on, which helps on flights where Bluetooth is restricted; with the power off they still play as passive wired headphones, without noise cancelling.

Sony lists the Sony WH-1000XM5 Pink at approximately 250 g without the cable. In the box you get the carrying case, the headphone cable (about 1.2 m) and a USB-A to USB-C cable (about 20 cm). Through the Sony Headphones Connect app you can switch codecs, turn on DSEE Extreme, set up Speak-to-Chat and Adaptive Sound Control, and see which codec is in use. Sony does not publish an IP rating for the WH-1000XM5.

The Sony WH-1000XM5 Pink suits someone who wants flagship noise cancelling for daily commuting, study or flights, and wants headphones that feel personal rather than corporate. It pairs especially well with light or neutral wardrobes and with pink or white phone cases. For a more low-key look the same headphones come in Black and Blue; for the newest Sony generation, look at the WH-1000XM6, which is a different model.
Who This Is Not For
The Sony WH-1000XM5 Pink is not for anyone who needs water or sweat resistance for workouts: Sony does not publish an IP rating for it. It is not for iPhone users who buy it for LDAC, since iPhones use AAC. It is not the latest model either: the WH-1000XM6 sits above it in Sony’s range.
