HappyFunland Souvenir Edition is the boxed PlayStation 5 release of HappyFunland, a virtual reality horror game published by Perpetual for PlayStation VR2. You agree to meet a stranger called Larry in a South Florida swamp and end up inside the abandoned grounds of HappyFunland, a theme park built by Mort Grisly and home to the mascot Randy Rodent. The park has a tragic history, and the only way to learn it is to walk through it and ride what is left. It is a single-player game, it needs a PS VR2 headset and the PS VR2 Sense controllers, and PlayStation lists it as playable sitting, standing or in roomscale.

The story: a theme park with a dark past
PlayStation describes HappyFunland as a horror game, and the setup is simple. A meeting with a stranger named Larry in the swamps of South Florida leads you to a closed amusement park that its owner, Mort Grisly, built around a cheerful rodent mascot called Randy Rodent. Something went badly wrong there, and the park was left to rot. In HappyFunland Souvenir Edition you explore that park on foot and piece together what happened through the places you visit and the rides you take. The tone mixes bright, cartoonish theme park design with decay and menace, which is exactly what gives the game its unsettling feel inside a headset.
Rides you actually sit through
The attractions are the core of HappyFunland. The official description names a pirate boat ride called Marauders of the Tropic Isles, a haunted house called Grisly Manor, a dark ride called Feral Squirrel’s Nutty Excursion and a water ride called It’s a Happy Little Grisly World, and says there are many more. In VR you sit in the cart or boat as it moves through each scene, so you see the animatronics, the sets and the surprises at full scale around you. That ride-through structure is what makes HappyFunland Souvenir Edition different from a corridor shooter: much of the tension comes from being carried somewhere you cannot see yet.
Made for PS VR2
HappyFunland Souvenir Edition is a PS VR2 title only. PlayStation lists PlayStation VR2 as required for the PS5 version, together with the PS VR2 Sense controllers, so it cannot be played on a regular TV screen. The store page lists support for headset vibration, controller vibration and adaptive trigger effects, which add a physical layer to the scares. You can choose sitting, standing or roomscale play; roomscale needs a clear area of at least 2 m × 2 m. Voice and on-screen text are in English only, according to the PlayStation Store listing for the UAE.
Age rating and comfort
This is an adult horror game. The PlayStation Store in the UAE shows an IARC 18+ rating for extreme violence and strong language, and the US store shows ESRB Mature for violence and strong language. Sony also states that PS VR2 is not for children under 12 and that VR can cause motion sickness. If you are new to VR, start seated and play in shorter sessions, since moving rides can be harder on comfort than standing still. HappyFunland Souvenir Edition plays offline once installed and is a single-player game, with no online mode listed by PlayStation.
About the Souvenir Edition
The Souvenir Edition is the physical disc release from Perpetual, the publisher listed on the PlayStation Store, while the copyright line credits Spectral Illusions. Perpetual does not publish a detailed list of extra contents for this edition on its official channels, so buy HappyFunland Souvenir Edition for the game on disc rather than for any specific bonus item. A disc copy can be lent, kept on a shelf or resold, which a digital purchase cannot. Note that the PS5 Digital Edition needs the separately sold disc drive to read it.
Who This Is Not For
HappyFunland Souvenir Edition is not for anyone without a PS VR2 headset and PS VR2 Sense controllers, as it cannot be played on a normal screen. It is not suitable for players under 18 given its rating, nor for people prone to motion sickness in moving VR scenes. It has no multiplayer mode and no Arabic language support (English voice and text only), and owners of a PS5 Digital Edition need the separate disc drive. Players who want a long combat-focused game may find it more of an atmospheric ride-through.
