The JBL Bar 1000 is a full surround system in three parts: a main soundbar, two detachable wireless surround speakers and a 10-inch wireless subwoofer. How the JBL Bar 1000 works
The main bar holds the front channels. At each end, a surround speaker clicks off and runs wirelessly on its own battery. JBL rates the battery at up to 10 hours, depending on content and volume, and the speakers recharge when you dock them back on the bar. When the surrounds are docked, the bar plays on its own.
The subwoofer is wireless too and needs only a power socket.
Drivers and power
JBL lists 880W total maximum output at 1% THD: 440W from the soundbar, 300W from the subwoofer and 70W from each surround speaker. The bar uses five 46 × 90 mm racetrack drivers, three 20 mm tweeters and two 70 mm up-firing full-range drivers. The surround speakers use 20 mm tweeters and 70 mm up-firing full-range drivers, and the subwoofer has a 10-inch (260 mm) driver. Frequency response is 33Hz to 20kHz at −6dB.
Dolby Atmos, DTS:X and MultiBeam
The JBL Bar 1000 decodes Dolby Atmos and DTS:X, and the up-firing drivers bounce height effects off the ceiling. JBL’s MultiBeam technology widens the sound, and PureVoice makes dialogue clearer. JBL includes an easy sound calibration feature to tune the system to your room.
Connections and streaming
There are three HDMI inputs and one HDMI output with eARC, and JBL lists HDR pass-through for HDR10 and Dolby Vision. For streaming, the JBL Bar 1000 has dual-band Wi-Fi (2.4GHz and 5GHz), Bluetooth 5.0, AirPlay, Chromecast built-in and Alexa Multi-Room Music. You control it with the included remote or the JBL One app.
Size and weight
The main bar measures 884 × 56 × 125 mm and weighs 3.7 kg. Each surround speaker is 155 × 56 × 125 mm and 0.7 kg. The subwoofer is 305 × 440.4 × 305 mm and 10 kg, so plan a floor spot near a socket for it.

It is not for anyone who does not want to recharge the surround speakers, since they run on battery for up to 10 hours. It is not for anyone who wants the newer model: JBL now sells the Bar 1000MK2.
