The DJI Osmo Action 6 Essential Combo is DJI’s first action camera with a variable aperture, packed as a lean starter kit: the camera, one battery and the basic quick-release mount, without the curved adhesive base found in the Standard Combo. Inside is a 1/1.1-inch square CMOS sensor with an f/2.0–f/4.0 aperture, 8K recording at up to 30fps, 4K at up to 120fps, 20 m waterproofing without a case and up to 240 minutes of recording per battery.

What Is in the Essential Combo Box
DJI’s packaging list for the Osmo Action 6 Essential Combo shows six items: the Osmo Action 6 camera, one Osmo Action Extreme Battery Plus (1950 mAh), an Osmo Dual-Direction Quick-Release Adapter Mount, an Osmo Locking Screw, a USB-C to USB-C PD cable and an Osmo Action Anti-Slip Pad.
Against DJI’s Standard Combo, the difference is the Osmo Action Curved Adhesive Base, which the Essential Combo leaves out. DJI described its Essential Combos for earlier Osmo Action models the same way: the core kit minus the curved adhesive base. If you plan to stick the camera on a helmet, add that base. No charger, memory card or waterproof case comes in the box.
Square Sensor and Variable Aperture
The 1/1.1-inch sensor is square, so the Osmo Action 6 Essential Combo records 4K at up to 120fps in a 4:3 frame, and you can crop to vertical or horizontal later. DJI quotes up to 13.5 stops of dynamic range and offers 10-bit D-Log M for colour grading.
On the Osmo Action 6 Essential Combo, the aperture moves between f/2.0 and f/4.0. f/2.0 lets in the most light for evenings and indoor shots; f/4.0 gives a closer focus distance (DJI lists focus from 0.2 m at f/4.0) and starburst effects on street lights. The lens covers a 155° field of view, and photos come out at 7168 × 5376 in JPEG or RAW.
8K, 4K at 120fps and Slow Motion
8K recording on the Osmo Action 6 Essential Combo is 7680 × 4320 at 24, 25 or 30fps, in 16:9 only, and DJI notes limited stabilisation and field-of-view options in that mode, with ISO capped at 12800. For most action footage, 4K at up to 120fps is the more flexible setting. Slow motion reaches 8x (240fps) at 1080p and 4x (120fps) at 4K and 2.7K. Maximum bitrate is 120 Mbps in HEVC.
Stabilisation options on the Osmo Action 6 Essential Combo are RockSteady 3.0, RockSteady 3.0+, HorizonBalancing and HorizonSteady. SuperNight mode raises video ISO to 51200 for low light, and pre-recording can keep up to 5 minutes of footage from before you press record.
Battery Life, Cold and Heat
DJI rates the Osmo Action 6 Essential Combo at up to 240 minutes of recording on its 1950 mAh battery, measured at 1080p/24fps with RockSteady on and Wi-Fi off at 25 °C. At -20 °C, DJI lists up to 167 minutes. DJI also quotes fast charging to 80% in 22 minutes; a charger is not included.
The operating range of the Osmo Action 6 Essential Combo is -20 °C to 45 °C, and charging should happen between 5 °C and 40 °C. In a UAE summer, keep the camera out of direct sun on a dashboard between sessions, because a parked car easily goes past 45 °C.
Waterproofing, Screens, Storage and Audio
The Osmo Action 6 Essential Combo camera is waterproof to 20 m without a case and to 60 m with DJI’s Waterproof Case, sold separately. The front screen is 1.46 inches (342 × 342) and the rear screen 2.5 inches (400 × 712), both rated at 800 nits typical, with the rear reaching 1000 nits peak.
Storage on the Osmo Action 6 Essential Combo is 64GB built in (about 50GB usable), plus microSD up to 1TB. Three built-in microphones record 48 kHz AAC audio, and OsmoAudio lets you pair two DJI mic transmitters directly without a receiver. Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth (BLE 5.1) handle the phone connection.
Who This Is Not For
The Osmo Action 6 Essential Combo is not for long shooting days without a power bank: there is one battery only, while the Adventure Combo adds two more batteries, the Multifunctional Battery Case 3 and a 1.5 m Extension Rod. It is not ready for helmet mounting out of the box, since the curved adhesive base is missing. Diving past 20 m needs the separate waterproof case. And 8K is limited to 30fps, 16:9 and reduced stabilisation, so it does not replace a cinema camera.
