The DNF Duel PS4 disc is a 2.5D action fighting game published by NEXON and released on 28 June 2022. It was jointly developed by NEOPLE, the studio behind the Dungeon and Fighter RPG, and fighting-game specialist Arc System Works, with Eighting also taking part in development. The game turns the classes of Dungeon and Fighter into fighters: 16 characters, including one unlockable Hidden Character, battle across 8 stages. Its tagline, “Action fighting at its extreme!”, sums up the fast, flashy style, and it supports online cross-generation play between PS4 and PS5.
DNF Duel PS4: Table of Contents
Heroes from the Dungeon and Fighter World
DNF Duel is based on Dungeon and Fighter, the long-running action RPG from NEOPLE, and each fighter comes from one of its classes. The official roster lists Berserker, Striker, Grappler, Inquisitor, Dragon Knight, Ranger, Hitman, Kunoichi, Enchantress, Vanguard, Swift Master, Ghostblade, Troubleshooter, Crusader and Launcher, plus one unlockable Hidden Character, for 16 in total. According to the official PlayStation page, Story Mode tells the origin of each character, so you can learn why each warrior fights before taking them online. The art style is a detailed 2.5D anime look, with 3D characters drawn to resemble hand-drawn sprites, a speciality of Arc System Works. Five more fighters, Spectre, Brawler, Battle Mage, Monk and Nen Master, were later released as paid DLC and a Season Pass.
MP Gauge, White Damage and Flashy Combos
DNF Duel is built to make big moves easy to perform. Characters use skills that cost MP, shown in an MP Gauge, so you decide when to spend resources on powerful attacks. The official PlayStation Store page also highlights the White Damage Gauge system, which shows damage that can still be recovered, adding a layer of risk and reward to each exchange. Matches are one-on-one and move quickly, with screen-filling special attacks and air combos. Because special skills can be performed with simple button inputs, newcomers can pull off impressive moves, while experienced players work on timing, spacing and resource management. Training Mode and a Tutorial teach the basics, and the Replay Library lets you study your own matches.
Story, Arcade, Survival and Online Ranked
Local modes listed on the PlayStation Store are Free Battle, Story Mode, Arcade Mode and Survival Mode for 1 to 2 players on one console, plus Training and Tutorial. Online modes include Ranked Match, Player Match and Ranking, with online play optional and PlayStation Plus required. NEXON states that online matches run on dedicated servers, and PS4 and PS5 players can play together. Extras include Player Profile, Replay Library, Gallery and Glossary. The PlayStation Store lists online play for up to 9 players in a room, so friends can gather and take turns fighting.
New Sealed PS4 Retail Disc
You receive a new, factory-sealed retail disc of DNF Duel for PS4. PS4 games are region-free, so it plays on any PS4 console. A separate PS5 version exists, and PS4 and PS5 players can fight each other online; most PS4 games also run on PS5 consoles with a disc drive, so check Sony’s list. Delivered across the UAE in up to 3 business days, free on orders from AED 300.
Who This Is Not For
There is no English voice acting: the PlayStation Store lists Korean, Japanese and Chinese voices, with English text. Arabic is not available. The five extra characters are paid DLC, not on the disc. Online play needs PlayStation Plus, and the online community is smaller than for big fighting series. Players who want a long single-player adventure will find the content limited.
