Hearing the road: Smart Ambient modes
Outdoor training means traffic, cyclists and other runners. Smart Ambient on the JBL Endurance Peak 4 Black Lime offers Ambient Aware to let outside sound in while music plays, TalkThru to lower the music for a quick conversation, and Voice Aware so you can hear your own voice on calls. When you move to a noisy gym or a bus home, Adaptive Noise Cancelling senses the noise around you and reduces it. Dust, sweat and the case
The earbuds are rated IP68, so dust from a desert trail, heavy sweat and rain are not a problem for the buds themselves. The JBL Endurance Peak 4 Black Lime charging case is only IPX2, which means it handles light drips but should not sit on wet grass or in a puddle. Wipe the buds and let them dry before you drop them back in. If you lose a bud on a trail, Google Finder support helps locate it from an Android phone, and Fast Pair enabled by Google speeds up the first connection.
Fit and sound, in brief
TwistLock: insert the bud and rotate it back so the liquid-silicone hook, with a flexible wire inside, settles behind your ear. Three ear-tip sizes and an enhancer are included. Who This Is Not For
The JBL Endurance Peak 4 Black Lime is not for anyone who wants small, discreet earbuds: the hooks and the 80.5 g case are bulky next to everyday buds. Thick-framed glasses can compete with the hook. The case is IPX2 only, JBL does not list wireless charging, and no cable or charger is in the box. JBL does not publish swim-test conditions, so they are not swimming earbuds. If you dislike bright accents, the plain Black Grey version is quieter-looking.
