Kazuya amiibo is Nintendo’s figure of Kazuya Mishima, the Tekken fighter who joined Super Smash Bros. Ultimate as downloadable content. Nintendo’s own description sums the character up: the son of Tekken icon Heihachi Mishima, Kazuya brings his demonic DNA into the fray, with a chip on his shoulder and destructive power. Kazuya in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate
Because Kazuya amiibo is part of the Super Smash Bros. collection, its main job is in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. The official Smash Bros. site explains that tapping an amiibo from this collection on the NFC touchpoint brings in its Figure Player, or FP. The FP fights as Kazuya under computer control and learns new abilities and tactics as it battles, so its personality develops the more you use it. You can boost its attack and defence with spirits you have collected, and you can send it online to fight other players’ FPs while you are not playing, with rewards and the chance of rare items.
A Tekken fighter in a Nintendo line
Kazuya comes from Bandai Namco’s Tekken series, and Nintendo credits Bandai Namco Entertainment for the character on its amiibo page. That makes Kazuya amiibo one of the third-party figures in the Smash line, alongside other guest fighters. For Tekken fans who also play on Switch, it is one of the few official Kazuya figures made by Nintendo, and the sculpt follows his Smash Ultimate design: bare torso, white trousers with the flame pattern and red gloves. It stands on the standard round amiibo base.
How amiibo connect to the Switch
Every amiibo has an NFC chip in its base. On a Nintendo Switch you hold the figure over the NFC touchpoint on the right Joy-Con stick or the Pro Controller when a game asks for it, and the game reads or writes the data. It does not work as a controller and has no battery. Outside Smash, functions depend on each game, and many Switch titles do not use amiibo at all, so treat it first as a Smash and collector piece.
