It keeps the essentials of the range: three motors that hold the phone steady on the pan, tilt and roll axes, a foldable body, a quick-release magnetic phone clamp, and the DJI Mimo app with ActiveTrack subject tracking and gesture control. What it leaves out is the built-in extension rod and the side wheel of the Osmo Mobile 6. In exchange you get a larger 2600 mAh battery that DJI rates at about 8 hours of run time, and a lower price that suits first-time creators, students and families who want smoother phone videos without paying for features they may not use.

Three-axis stabilisation for everyday filming
The DJI Osmo Mobile SE corrects shake mechanically, before the phone camera records the frame, so walking shots and slow pans look calm rather than jittery. DJI lists a maximum control speed of 120° per second and mechanical ranges of -161.2° to 171.95° on pan, -136.7° to 198° on roll and -106.54° to 235.5° on tilt. The M button switches gimbal modes, including SpinShot for rotating shots. For family events, school projects, product videos for a small online shop or a simple travel vlog, this level of stabilisation is the big step up from handheld phone footage.
Magnetic clamp and foldable body
The phone attaches with a quick-release magnetic clamp of about 31 g. Clip it onto the phone once, then snap the phone onto the gimbal whenever you want to film and pull it off to take a call. Folded, the DJI Osmo Mobile SE measures 167 × 108.5 × 46.5 mm and the gimbal weighs about 352 g, so it fits in a backpack or a medium handbag. DJI’s marketing sums up the routine as unfold, snap in and start rolling. The grip tripod listed for this gimbal (138 mm long, about 72 g) screws into the base and lets you stand it on a table for timelapses or recording yourself talking.
ActiveTrack, gesture control and the zoom slider
Connected over Bluetooth 5.1, the DJI Mimo app adds the smart features. ActiveTrack locks onto a person or object and turns the gimbal to keep it in frame, which is helpful when you film yourself without a camera operator. Gesture control, switched on from the icon next to the shutter button, lets you start recording or tracking with a hand sign. On the left of the handle there is a zoom slider; image quality while zooming depends on your phone’s own camera. To switch between landscape and portrait, press the switch button twice. Basic stabilisation works in any camera app, but tracking and gestures need DJI Mimo.
Battery life and charging
The DJI Osmo Mobile SE uses an 18650 Li-ion cell of 2600 mAh (9.36 Wh). DJI rates the run time at about 8 hours, measured under ideal conditions with the gimbal fully balanced; a heavy phone, frequent fast movement and heat will shorten that. A full recharge takes about 2 hours 12 minutes with a 10W USB-C charger. The gimbal cannot charge your phone, so carry a power bank for the phone on long days. DJI states that software updates for this model are guaranteed until 31 December 2026.
Which phones fit
DJI recommends phones between 170 and 290 g in weight, 6.9 to 10 mm thick and 67 to 84 mm wide. That covers most current iPhone and Android phones, including many large models, but the limit includes the case and any add-on lens. If your phone sits near 290 g with a thick protective case, remove the case before mounting so the motors are not overloaded and balance stays accurate.
Who This Is Not For
The DJI Osmo Mobile SE has no built-in extension rod, so it is not the best choice if you film many selfies, group shots or high angles; the Osmo Mobile 6 adds a rod of up to 215 mm. It has no side wheel for focus control, only a zoom slider. It cannot charge the phone, is not water resistant, and DJI rates it for 0° to 40° C, which matters outdoors in UAE summer afternoons. At about 352 g it is also slightly heavier than the Osmo Mobile 6.
