The Kindle Paperwhite Signature Edition Jade is the top 2024 Paperwhite, which Amazon lists as the 12th generation, finished in a green metallic shade. Compared with the standard 16 GB Paperwhite it adds three things: 32 GB of storage, a front light that adjusts itself to the room, and wireless charging on a dock sold separately. The 7-inch, 300 ppi glare-free screen has the higher contrast ratio and 25% faster page turns Amazon quotes for this generation, the battery is rated at up to 12 weeks, and the body is waterproof to IPX8. It suits the reader who takes books outdoors: to the beach, the pool or a long-haul flight.

Metallic Jade: the colour and who it suits
Jade is a soft green with a metallic sheen on the back panel. The front is the same black flush bezel on every colour, so while you read the Kindle Paperwhite Signature Edition Jade shows only the page; the colour shows when the Kindle lies face-down on a café table or sits in your hand on the metro. It is calmer than Metallic Raspberry and less anonymous than Metallic Black, which makes it a good choice for someone who wants the Kindle to feel personal without being loud. Green also hides light fingerprints better than black, but the metallic finish can pick up scratches from keys in a bag, so a cover is worth adding if you carry it loose.
Reading outdoors: sun, pool and travel
The Paperwhite screen is lit from the front and is glare-free, so text stays sharp in bright sunlight. Amazon says the auto-adjusting front light lets you read in the brightest sunlight or late into the night without touching the slider, and you can shift the light from white to warm amber. The Kindle Paperwhite Signature Edition Jade is rated IPX8 and tested by Amazon against immersion in 2 metres of fresh water for 60 minutes, which covers a drop in the pool or the bath. After sea water, rinse it with fresh water and let it dry before charging. At 214 g and 7.8 mm thick it fits a beach bag or a cabin bag with room to spare.
Storage, battery and charging
The 32 GB in the Kindle Paperwhite Signature Edition Jade holds thousands of books, and the extra space over the 16 GB model matters most if you keep Audible audiobooks on the device, since they take far more room than text. Amazon rates a single charge at up to 12 weeks, based on half an hour of reading a day with wireless off and the light at setting 13; streaming audiobooks over Bluetooth shortens that. A full charge by USB-C takes under 2.5 hours with a 9W adapter, which is not in the box. Wireless charging works with a compatible dock sold separately.
Formats, Wi-Fi and accessibility
The Kindle Paperwhite Signature Edition Jade reads Kindle formats (AZW3, AZW), TXT, PDF, unprotected MOBI and PRC natively, and converts DOCX, DOC, HTML, EPUB, RTF and common image files sent to it. Wi-Fi works on both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz networks. Accessibility tools include the VoiceView screen reader over Bluetooth audio (English only), dark mode, and adjustable font size, typeface, line spacing and margins. There are no social apps or notifications, so the device stays a reading tool.
Which Kindle Paperwhite Signature Edition this is
Amazon has used the Signature Edition name before, so the generation matters. The Kindle Paperwhite Signature Edition Jade is the Kindle Paperwhite Signature Edition (12th Generation), a 2024 release with a 7-inch screen, offered by Amazon in Metallic Black, Metallic Raspberry and Metallic Jade. The metallic colour names belong to this generation. Inside the box you get the Kindle, a USB-C charging cable and a Quick Start Guide.
Who This Is Not For
The Kindle Paperwhite Signature Edition Jade is not for reading comics or magazines in colour: the screen is greyscale (16 levels). It is not a tablet, with no web apps, email or video. A charging adapter and the wireless dock are not included. Amazon’s IPX8 test is in fresh water only, and the VoiceView screen reader works in English only. If you do not need auto light or wireless charging, the standard 16 GB Paperwhite costs less.
