The Xiaomi TV Stick 4K turns a TV with a free HDMI port into an Android TV 11 set. Xiaomi rates it for 4K output with Dolby Vision, decodes Dolby Atmos and DTS HD sound, builds in Chromecast and Google Assistant, and ships it with a 360° Bluetooth + IR remote. Inside are a quad-core Cortex-A35 processor, a Mali-G31 MP2 GPU, 2GB of RAM and 8GB of storage, in a stick that weighs 42.8 g.

Xiaomi TV Stick 4K: Android TV 11 on Any HDMI TV
Android TV 11 is the home screen this stick runs, with rows of apps and recommendations from the services you install. Xiaomi says you can reach more than 7,000 apps from Google Play and more than 400,000 films and shows; many of those need their own subscription, and Xiaomi notes that platforms and content vary by country or region.
Netflix, Amazon Prime Video and YouTube come pre-installed, so the most common services are ready as soon as you sign in. Any other streaming app, live-TV service or media player you use can be added from Google Play.
Because the Xiaomi TV Stick 4K hangs off the HDMI port, it is a cheap way to give an older non-smart TV, a hotel-style screen in a majlis or a projector a full app store without replacing the screen itself.
Dolby Vision, Dolby Atmos and DTS HD
On the picture side, Xiaomi lists 4K output and Dolby Vision. Dolby Vision only shows when three things line up: the TV supports it, the app offers it, and the title is mastered in it. On a Full HD television the stick still works, but the picture is limited to what that panel can show. Xiaomi does not publish the maximum frame rate or a list of other HDR formats on its product page.
For sound, the Xiaomi TV Stick 4K decodes Dolby Atmos and DTS HD. To hear Atmos height effects you need a soundbar or AV receiver that supports Atmos, connected through the TV; the TV speakers alone will play a normal stereo or surround mix.
Video decoding covers AV1, VP9, H.265, H.264, MPEG-2 and MPEG-1, and Xiaomi lists MKV, MP4, AVI, MOV, MPG, ISO and other containers, plus MP3, AAC, FLAC and RM audio, which helps if you play your own files from a media app.
Inside the Xiaomi TV Stick 4K: Cortex-A35, 2GB RAM, 8GB
Xiaomi fits a quad-core Cortex-A35 CPU with a Mali-G31 MP2 GPU, 2GB of RAM and 8GB of storage. The 2GB of RAM keeps switching between a streaming app and the home screen smooth for normal viewing.
The 8GB of storage is the part to plan around. The system takes part of it, so you have room for your main streaming apps but not for dozens of large games. There is no memory card slot, and the single Micro USB port on the stick is used for power.
Remote, Google Assistant and Chromecast
The 360° Bluetooth remote does not need to point at the stick, which matters because the Xiaomi TV Stick 4K usually sits behind the TV. It also has an IR transmitter, so the same remote can switch your TV or soundbar on and off and change the volume.
Press the Google Assistant button to search by voice, open apps or control compatible smart home devices; Xiaomi notes that Google Assistant availability varies by market. Chromecast built-in lets you send a YouTube video, a photo album or a supported app from an Android phone, iPhone, tablet or laptop on the same Wi-Fi network straight to the TV.
Connectivity is dual-band Wi-Fi on 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz plus Bluetooth 5.2. Use 5 GHz when the router is close for steadier 4K streams; 2.4 GHz reaches further through walls but is more crowded in apartment buildings.
Xiaomi TV Stick 4K vs the 2nd Gen
This page is the original Xiaomi TV Stick 4K with Android TV 11. Xiaomi also sells the Xiaomi TV Stick 4K 2nd Gen, a separate model that runs Google TV and moves to a faster Cortex-A55 processor, Wi-Fi 6, HDR10+ and DTS:X.
Choose the Xiaomi TV Stick 4K if you prefer the classic Android TV home screen and want Dolby Vision, Atmos and Chromecast at a lower price. Choose the 2nd Gen if you want the Google TV interface, a newer chip and Wi-Fi 6 for a busy home network. If you prefer Alexa, the Amazon Fire TV Stick 4K Max is the other option in our range.
Who This Is Not For
Gamers who want to install many large Android games: 8GB of storage fills quickly and there is no card slot. Anyone who wants the newer Google TV interface or Wi-Fi 6 should look at the 2nd Gen instead.
If your TV has no free HDMI port, or the space behind it is tight, you will need the included HDMI extender cable. The stick also needs its own power through Micro USB, so plan for a wall socket near the TV for the included power adapter. There is no Ethernet port, and Xiaomi does not list a wired network option.
