Description

The Rokid Glasses look like an ordinary pair of black frames and weigh 49 grams, but both lenses carry a small Micro-LED waveguide display. It shows the things you would otherwise take your phone out for: subtitles translating the person in front of you, walking directions, a reply from the AI assistant. A 12MP camera in the frame takes photos and vertical video from your point of view, and two open-ear speakers handle music and calls. Everything is set up and controlled through the Hi Rokid app on your phone.

Rokid Glasses AI smart glasses with Micro-LED display, black frame

What the Rokid Glasses display can and cannot show

Rokid uses a binocular Micro-LED waveguide display: 480 x 400 pixels, a 30-degree field of view and up to 1,500 nits with ten brightness levels. The important detail is the colour. It is a single-colour green display, built for text, subtitles, arrows and simple icons.

So the Rokid Glasses are not a screen for watching films or looking at photos in colour. That trade is what keeps the frame at 49 grams and the lenses looking like normal clear glasses. When nothing is being shown, people across the table see an ordinary pair of frames.

Translation on the Rokid Glasses: online, offline and Arabic

Real-time translation is the reason many people look at the Rokid Glasses. The microphones pick up the speaker and the translation appears as subtitles in your view, so you keep eye contact instead of looking down at a phone. Rokid says online translation runs on Microsoft Translator and covers 89 languages.

Offline translation covers six languages: Chinese, English, Japanese, German, French and Spanish. You download the language model in the app first, and after that the translation does not rely on Wi-Fi or mobile data. Arabic is not one of the six offline languages, and Rokid’s translation guide does not list the 89 online languages by name, so it does not confirm Arabic either way.

Rokid’s global pages list no fee for translation. Walking navigation is different: Rokid says it needs a phone connection and an active data connection, that the map provider and features vary by region and app version, and its Australian store states that full access to real-time AR navigation requires a subscription. Rokid also notes that which AI models are available depends on the region.

Camera, audio and the AI assistant

The 12MP camera takes photos at 3024 x 4032 through an f/2.25 lens. Video goes up to 3K at 30 fps in the 9:16 vertical format, with 2.5K and 2K modes in other shapes, which suits social media without cropping. Because the camera sees what you see, you can also ask the assistant about a sign, a menu or an object in front of you.

Say Hi Rokid to wake the assistant. Rokid states that the Rokid Glasses support recent GPT and Gemini models. Sound comes from two near-ear directional speakers that leave your ears open to traffic and conversation, and four microphones with noise reduction pick up your voice.

Battery, charging and daily wear

The battery is small at 210 mAh. Rokid rates it at about 8 to 10 hours of mixed use and 6 hours of continuous Bluetooth music, and continuous translation or filming will shorten that. The magnetic cable charges to about 80 percent in 20 minutes. Rokid also lists a charging case for the glasses, but its own store pages disagree on the case capacity (3,000 mAh on one, 3,150 mAh on another) and on whether it ships in the box, so it is not counted in the contents below.

The frame is TR90 plastic with titanium alloy hinges, rated IPX4 against sweat and splashes. For glasses wearers, Rokid offers customised clip-in lenses for short sight and astigmatism, from +6.00D to -16.00D.

Who This Is Not For

If you want a colour screen for video, photos or games in front of your eyes, the Rokid Glasses will disappoint: the display is green only. If you need offline Arabic translation, it is not offered; offline mode covers six other languages.

They also rely on your phone. You need the Hi Rokid app, a Rokid account and a phone on Android 10 or later with location services on, or iOS 16 or later. The 210 mAh battery will not last a full day of non-stop translation, and IPX4 means splashes, not swimming or rain-soaked hiking.
