The Midnight Black Collection
For most of the PS5 generation the Edge existed in white only. Sony changed that with a coordinated launch: pre-orders opened on 16 January and the collection shipped on 20 February, covering four separate products in the same finish so an entire setup could match rather than one piece standing out.
The DualSense Edge itself is produced in exactly two colours — white and this one. Everything else in the range is a limited or anniversary release, so if you want a black pro pad from Sony, this is the option that exists. How the Edge Differs From a Standard DualSense
Three physical differences are easy to miss on a spec sheet. The Edge weighs roughly 55 g more than a standard pad, which most players read as reassuring heft rather than fatigue. Its faceplate is glossy where the standard controller is matte. And the touchpad carries the PlayStation face-button symbols printed across it instead of being left blank.
The one honest trade-off is runtime: the Edge does not last as long on a charge as a standard DualSense, because the extra modules, back buttons and on-controller interface all draw power. Anyone buying a pro pad should plan on keeping the braided cable within reach.
The Carrying Case Is Black Too
Sony extended the finish to the included case rather than shipping a black controller in a white box-standard shell. The genuinely useful part is functional rather than cosmetic: there is a pass-through so you can leave the controller charging over USB while it stays zipped inside the case.
That turns the case from storage into a dock. Everything — spare caps, back buttons, cable, connector housing — lives in one place and comes out charged.
Who the DualSense Edge Midnight Black Suits
If your setup is already black — a dark TV unit, black console covers, a black headset — the white Edge is the one thing that breaks the line. This solves that. It also hides fingerprints and hand oil far better than white, which matters on a controller you grip for hours at a time.
The counterpoint is honest: the glossy black faceplate shows smudges more readily than matte black would, and light dust is more visible against it. Neither affects use, and a microfibre cloth clears both. If your console and shelf are white, the standard Edge keeps the set consistent instead.

The package is unusually full for a controller. Alongside the pad you get a braided USB cable and a connector housing that locks the cable into the controller so it cannot be yanked out mid-match, three pairs of stick caps in standard, high dome and low dome heights, two pairs of back buttons in half-dome and lever shapes, the carrying case and the manual.
