RIDE 5 D1 Edition is the physical Day One disc of RIDE 5 for Xbox Series X, the motorcycle racing simulation from the Milan studio Milestone. Milestone released RIDE 5 on 24 August 2023 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC only, so this is a new-generation game: there is no Xbox One version. The game is built around a renewed career with more than 200 events and 10 rivals, endurance races that last from 20 minutes up to 24 hours, a dynamic weather system and a day-night cycle.

Check your console first
The RIDE 5 D1 Edition disc runs on an Xbox Series X. It does not run on an Xbox Series S, because the Series S has no disc drive at all, and it does not run on an Xbox One, because RIDE 5 was never released for that console. RIDE 5 D1 Edition installs from the disc to the console storage and will usually want an update from the internet before you play. If your console is a Series S, the digital version is the only option.
A career with rivals and a narrator
Milestone describes the career of RIDE 5 as renewed, and the first in the series to include a narrator. It holds more than 200 playable events, from championships and single races to time attacks, and it introduces 10 rivals, each with a personality and background of their own, instead of anonymous AI riders. There are two paths: a main progression and a secondary series of high-risk, high-reward races. Your headquarters grows as you climb a global ladder, and a new leaderboard system ranks your times against other players.
Endurance races, weather and tyres
Endurance is the headline addition of RIDE 5 D1 Edition: races run from 20 minutes up to 24 hours, and Milestone added in-race saves and a rewind function so a long race does not have to be restarted after one mistake. A Sky System brings a day-night cycle and 3D volumetric clouds, while the Dynamic Weather System calculates track and air temperature in real time and changes the weather during a race. In RIDE 5 D1 Edition tyres wear physically and visually, so a long stint feels different at the end than at the start.
Riding model and assists
RIDE 5 sits closer to simulation than arcade. Milestone reworked the interaction between rider and bike and revised the suspension behaviour, and it offers Riding Aids for braking, cornering, steering, throttle and the ideal racing line. Newcomers can start with the aids on and switch them off one by one as they improve, which is the sensible way into RIDE 5 D1 Edition if this is your first motorcycle sim. Settings can be adjusted to suit different riding styles.
Split-screen, cross-play and creation tools
Milestone brought back split-screen in RIDE 5, so two players can race on one console. Online, cross-play connects PS5 and Xbox Series X|S players. Online multiplayer on Xbox needs an internet connection and the subscription Microsoft requires for online play, which is not included with the disc. The Race Creator lets you design your own races and championships, with scoring, rules, allowed bike categories and AI opponents, and editors for bikes, suits and helmets let you share your designs online.
Who This Is Not For
RIDE 5 D1 Edition does not suit Xbox Series S or Xbox One owners: the Series S has no disc drive and there is no Xbox One version. Players who want easy arcade racing may find the riding model demanding even with aids. Online play needs a paid Xbox subscription, not included. Milestone does not list the exact Day One bonus contents in its release announcement, and any bonus code printed in a 2023 launch box may no longer redeem; buy it for the game itself.
