Bloober Team calls >observer_ a gritty psychological horror game set in a dark cyberpunk world beset by plagues, war and squalor. The year is 2084. If people survived the Nanophage, the studio writes, the War probably killed them; those still alive escape into drugs, virtual reality and neural implants.
You are Dan Lazarski, an elite neural detective known as an Observer, part of a corporate-funded police unit whose job is to hack and invade suspects’ minds. In this future, anything a person thinks, feels or remembers can be used against them in court.
Hacking Minds with the Dream Eater
The core of Observer PS4 is investigation inside other people’s heads. Using a device Bloober Team calls the Dream Eater, you hack into the minds of the dead and dying to relive their final moments, their fears and their obsessions, and search those twisted neural mazes for clues to a killer.
The studio warns that the deeper you go, the greater the risk to your own sanity, and the game plays on that: as you relive the darkest fears of criminals and victims, it pushes you to question your own reality.
Rutger Hauer as Daniel Lazarski
Bloober Team credits the late cyberpunk icon Rutger Hauer with portraying Daniel Lazarski. For many players, hearing the actor from Blade Runner as the lead of a cyberpunk detective story is a reason in itself to keep a physical copy of Observer PS4 on the shelf.

Limited Run Games lists this release as Limited Run #162: Observer (PS4). Its product page states that the standard edition was limited to 4,000 copies worldwide, that the disc is region free, and that the game has reversible cover art, with the side sealed outwards randomised at the factory. The box shows an ESRB M rating and the Aspyr and Bloober Team logos.

Observer PS4 or Observer: System Redux?
