The JBL Live 680NC are JBL’s wireless on-ear headphones with True Adaptive Noise Cancelling 2.0. They run 40 mm dynamic drivers, support Hi-Res Audio both wired and wireless, and JBL rates the battery at up to 80 hours with noise cancelling off, or up to 50 hours with it on. Bluetooth 6.0, two-device multipoint and Auracast sharing round out a 231 g foldable design. This listing is the black JBL Live 680NC; note that they sit on the ear rather than around it.

Table of Contents
Noise cancelling that adjusts itself
True Adaptive Noise Cancelling 2.0 on the JBL Live 680NC uses four microphones and calibrates in real time, adjusting to your surroundings and to how the ear cups sit. On an on-ear design the seal is never as complete as on over-ear cups, so expect good reduction of engine hum and office chatter rather than silence.
When you need to hear the world, Ambient Aware lets outside sound in, TalkThru lowers the music for a quick conversation, and Voice Aware lets you hear your own voice on calls.
Sound: 40 mm drivers and Hi-Res Audio
The JBL Live 680NC use 40 mm dynamic drivers with a frequency response of 10 Hz to 40 kHz, 32 ohm impedance and 98 dB SPL sensitivity at 1 kHz. JBL certifies them for Hi-Res Audio both wired and wireless; the wired route uses the USB-C to 3.5 mm cable in the box.
JBL Spatial Sound widens the stage for films and games, and Personi-Fi 3.0 in the JBL Headphones app builds a sound profile around your hearing. The app also holds the EQ and noise-cancelling controls.
Battery: 80 hours or 50, depending on ANC
JBL rates the JBL Live 680NC at up to 80 hours with noise cancelling off and up to 50 hours with it on, from an 870 mAh battery. A full charge takes 2 hours from empty, and a 5-minute speed charge adds up to 4 hours of listening.
For a daily commute with ANC on, 50 hours is roughly two to three weeks between charges for most people.
Connection, calls and sharing
Bluetooth 6.0 with A2DP 1.4, AVRCP 1.6.3 and HFP 1.9 connects the JBL Live 680NC to two devices at once through multipoint, so a laptop meeting and a phone call can share the same headphones. Two of the microphones are dedicated to calls. Auracast support lets you share audio with other Auracast devices.
Why the black JBL Live 680NC
Black is the colour that works everywhere: in the office, on the metro and in photos. It does not show make-up, hair products or pen marks the way the White or Sand versions can, and the black cushions age without visible staining. If you want colour instead, the Blue and Green versions are the same headphones. Wipe the cushions after long wear and fold them into the pouch when travelling.
On-ear 680NC or over-ear 780NC?
The JBL Live 680NC and the JBL Live 780NC are different products. The 680NC rest on the ear, which keeps them smaller and lighter for a bag; the 780NC surround the ear, which usually seals better for noise cancelling and spreads pressure over a wider area on long flights.
Who This Is Not For
On-ear pads press on the outer ear, which some people find tiring after a few hours, especially with glasses. If maximum noise cancelling on flights matters most, over-ear cups do better. JBL lists no water or sweat resistance, so they are not gym headphones. And at 231 g they are not the lightest on-ear option.
