The JBL Boombox 4 Black is the flagship of JBL’s portable line in its classic all-black finish, the version that looks equally at home on a villa terrace, in a majlis corner or in the boot of a car. JBL rates it at 210W RMS when plugged into the wall and 200W RMS on battery, both continuous figures rather than peak. Battery life is rated at up to 28 hours, or up to 34 with Playtime Boost, and the pack can be swapped by hand. The body is sealed to IP68, and Bluetooth 5.4 with Auracast lets two units play as a stereo pair.

Why black is the default pick
Black is the finish most buyers choose, and for a speaker this size it has practical reasons. A half-metre speaker in a bright colour dominates a living room; the JBL Boombox 4 Black sits beside a sofa, a TV unit or a garden barbecue without becoming the centre of attention. It hides scuffs from being lifted in and out of a car, and it matches most outdoor furniture and home interiors. If the speaker will spend as much time at home as on trips, or if it is shared across a family, black is the safest choice.
Garden gatherings and majlis nights
For an evening on a terrace or a majlis gathering, the JBL Boombox 4 Black can run from the mains and deliver its full 210W RMS: two 5-inch (123 mm) woofers at 65W RMS each and two 0.75-inch (20 mm) tweeters at 40W RMS each, with three passive radiators for the low end. JBL lists a frequency response of 37 Hz to 20 kHz. AI Sound Boost analyses the music in real time to give more output with less distortion, and the Bass Boost button on the top panel has two settings. JBL does not publish a maximum SPL figure.
Off the mains: 200W RMS and up to 34 hours
Unplug the JBL Boombox 4 Black and the woofers drop to 60W RMS each, so 200W RMS in total, about 5% less. JBL rates the 99.02Wh lithium-ion pack at up to 28 hours, plus up to 6 more with Playtime Boost; it does not publish the test volume, so loud playback will be shorter. A full charge takes 3 hours. The pack is user-replaceable in three steps, and JBL sells spares separately. JBL also lists a powerbank function, so it can top up a phone during a long night out.
IP68 for weather, sand and spills
The JBL Boombox 4 Black is rated IP68: dust-tight and rated for immersion, not just splashes. In practice, a sudden rain shower over the garden, fine sand on a camping trip or a drink knocked over at a gathering is not a risk. JBL lists the size as about 51 × 26 × 21 cm and the weight as 5.89 kg, and says it was redesigned to be lighter than before. The wide top handle makes it a one-hand carry, but at almost six kilos you will carry it to a spot and leave it there.

Wireless playback uses Bluetooth 5.4 with A2DP 1.4 and AVRCP 1.6. Auracast lets the JBL Boombox 4 Black form a stereo pair with a second Boombox 4 in any colour, or join other Auracast-enabled JBL speakers. The only wired audio input is USB-C, which plays lossless digital audio from a laptop or other device when the source plays lossless content from a supported app or service. The mains input accepts 100 to 240V at 50/60 Hz, so it runs on UAE power with the included AC cord.
Who This Is Not For
The JBL Boombox 4 Black is not a karaoke or party-light speaker: it has no microphone or guitar input and no light show, which JBL’s PartyBox range offers. It has no 3.5 mm AUX input, no HDMI and no optical input, so it will not take sound from a TV. At 5.89 kg and about half a metre wide it will not fit a normal backpack. The spare battery is sold separately, and JBL does not say the speaker floats.
