A good seal matters twice with noise-cancelling earbuds: for bass and for ANC. HUAWEI includes four ear-tip sizes (large, medium, small and ultra-small), with medium fitted from the factory. Each Huawei FreeBuds Pro 5 White bud weighs about 5.5 g and measures 29.1 × 21.8 × 23.7 mm. If the bass sounds thin or ANC feels weak, try one size up before judging the sound. Noise cancelling on the Huawei FreeBuds Pro 5 White
HUAWEI calls its system Intelligent Dual-engine ANC: both drivers work on cancelling noise. HUAWEI says it processes up to 400,000 noise instances per second with 8 μs processing latency and performs up to 220% better than the FreeBuds Pro 4, all in its own lab tests and depending on environment and fit. HUAWEI does not publish a decibel figure for noise reduction. Sound comes from an ultra-linear dual-magnet driver and an ultra-thin micro planar diaphragm driver in each bud, with a frequency response of 10 Hz to 48 kHz. Lossless transmission at up to 2.3 Mbps works only with a HUAWEI Mate X7 on EMUI 15 or later and certain other models.
Battery, charging and phones
Over AAC the Huawei FreeBuds Pro 5 White runs up to 9 hours per charge and 38 hours with the case with ANC off, or 6 and 25 hours with ANC on. Over L2HC or LDAC it is 8 and 33 hours with ANC off, 5 and 22 hours with ANC on. HUAWEI measured these at 50% volume. The buds refill in the case in about 40 minutes; the case takes about 1 hour by USB-C or about 150 minutes wirelessly at up to 5 W. The earbuds connect to two devices at once across iOS, Android and Windows, with wider multi-connection on certain HUAWEI phones and tablets running EMUI 13 or later. Settings live in the HUAWEI Audio Connect app for iOS and Android.
Who This Is Not For
The Huawei FreeBuds Pro 5 White is not for anyone who wants low-maintenance looks; choose Sand or Grey instead, because white needs regular wiping. Swimmers need a different product, since HUAWEI advises against swimming or showering with these earbuds. iPhone owners will connect over AAC and will not get L2HC lossless, which needs specific HUAWEI phones.
