The Huawei FreeBuds Pro 5 Sand is the warm, beige-toned finish of Huawei’s top earbuds for this generation. Sand sits close to skin tone, so in the ear it looks quieter than white or blue, which suits people who wear earbuds through meetings and do not want them to be the first thing others notice. Inside is the same hardware as every FreeBuds Pro 5: two drivers per bud, dual-engine noise cancelling, support for L2HC, LDAC and AAC, and Bluetooth 6. Below we explain the battery numbers with their conditions and where the iPhone experience is more limited.

Why pick the Huawei FreeBuds Pro 5 Sand
Sand is the neutral that does not look clinical. It pairs with beige, camel, olive and gold phone cases, and with light office clothes, without the high contrast of black or the bright shine of white. On the case it also hides fine dust and pocket lint better than the white version, though darker grime still shows on any light finish.
The discreet look is the main reason we suggest the Huawei FreeBuds Pro 5 Sand for work: long video calls, open-plan offices and client meetings where you keep one bud in. Wipe the case with a dry microfibre cloth, and clean the ear tips with a slightly damp cloth, not under running water, to keep the tone even.
Huawei FreeBuds Pro 5 Sand for calls and meetings
Huawei lists call noise cancellation among the features, and the sensor list includes a bone acoustic sensor, which picks up the vibration of your own voice. Conversation Awareness can lower the music when you start speaking, and Adaptive Volume adjusts to the room; Huawei notes both are off by default and need to be switched on.
For a full workday of calls, Huawei rates up to 5 hours per charge with ANC off (22 hours with the case), or 4 hours per charge with ANC on (18 hours with the case). Awareness and Human Voice Transparency modes let you hear a colleague without taking the buds out.
Huawei FreeBuds Pro 5 Sand sound and codecs: L2HC, LDAC and AAC
Each bud of the Huawei FreeBuds Pro 5 Sand pairs an ultra-linear dual-magnet driver for the low end with an ultra-thin micro planar diaphragm driver for treble, driven by dual DSPs and dual DACs. Huawei lists a frequency response of 10 Hz to 48 kHz.
Huawei’s battery tables are measured with L2HC/LDAC and with AAC, which tells you the three codecs in use. The headline 2.3 Mbps lossless mode (L2HC 4.0 at 48 kHz/24-bit) is limited: Huawei says it works with a Huawei Mate X7 on EMUI 15 or later and only on certain phone models. On most Android phones you will use LDAC or AAC.
Battery life of the Huawei FreeBuds Pro 5 Sand, with conditions
The 38-hour figure is the best case: AAC, ANC off, earbuds plus case. With AAC and ANC on, Huawei rates up to 6 hours per charge and 25 hours with the case. With L2HC or LDAC the numbers drop to 8 and 33 hours with ANC off, and 5 and 22 hours with ANC on.
The Huawei FreeBuds Pro 5 Sand case charges over USB-C (5 V/0.5 A or above) in about an hour on its own, and about 40 minutes when the buds are inside. Wireless charging runs at up to 5 W and takes about 150 minutes for the case alone.
Using the Huawei FreeBuds Pro 5 Sand with an iPhone
The Huawei AI Life app is available for iPhone, but on iOS the earbuds must be added to the app by hand rather than appearing automatically as they do on Android and HarmonyOS phones. The iPhone connects over AAC, so L2HC lossless is not available, and Huawei ties dual-device connection and proximity pairing to Huawei phones running EMUI. Huawei does not publish a full list of which remaining features work on iOS.
Who This Is Not For
Swimmers and people who shower with earbuds should skip the Huawei FreeBuds Pro 5 Sand: Huawei rates the buds IP57 and the case IP54, and says the product is not suitable for swimming or showering. iPhone users who buy for lossless audio will not get it. Anyone who wants a published noise-cancelling depth in decibels will not find one; Huawei describes ANC in relative terms only. And the box has no charging cable listed, only the earbuds, case, four sizes of ear tips and paperwork.
