The GoPro HERO13 Black is GoPro’s flagship action camera: 5.3K video at 60 frames per second, 4K at 120, 27MP photos and HyperSmooth 6.0 stabilisation in a body that goes into the sea without a housing. GoPro gave it a bigger 1900mAh Enduro battery, faster Wi-Fi 6 transfers, GPS, and a lens mount that recognises HB-Series lens mods on its own. This listing is the camera on its own, for people who already own mounts and cards or prefer to choose them.
Table of Contents
Video modes and what they are for
GoPro lists 5.3K60, 4K120, 2.7K120 and 1080p240 as the main video modes on the GoPro HERO13 Black. Burst Slo-Mo goes further for short clips: 720p at 400 fps for 15 seconds, 900p at 360 fps for 15 seconds, or 5.3K at 120 fps for 5 seconds. The full 8:7 sensor frame gives a 156-degree field of view in 5.3K and 4K, so you can shoot once and crop later to vertical for Reels or wide for YouTube. Video can be recorded in 10-bit with HLG HDR, and GP-Log with a LUT is there for anyone who colour grades. Still photos are 27MP, and frame grabs pulled from video reach 24.7MP.
Water, sand and heat
GoPro rates the GoPro HERO13 Black as rugged and waterproof to 10 m (33 ft) with no extra housing, which covers swimming, snorkelling at Fujairah or Khor Fakkan, kayaking and jet-ski spray. The lens cover repels water and can be replaced if it gets scratched by sand. Keep the battery door properly closed before it touches water, and rinse it with fresh water after the sea. For diving deeper than 10 m you need a protective housing; GoPro says the HERO13 Black fits the HERO12 Black Protective Housing. Like every action camera, it is safer to keep it in the shade between shots on a hot UAE day.
The 1900mAh Enduro battery
The battery grows from 1720mAh on the HERO12 Black to 1900mAh. GoPro quotes over 2.5 hours of continuous recording at 1080p30 and about 1.5 hours at 4K30 and 5.3K30, measured at 25 °C with the Wide digital lens, Bluetooth and HyperSmooth on, screens on, and GPS and voice control off. High frame rates and heat shorten those times. One important point: GoPro states the HERO13 Enduro battery is not compatible with older GoPro cameras, so it cannot be shared with a HERO12 or HERO11. For long sessions, the Contacto magnetic door and power cable kit, sold separately, powers the camera from any USB-C source.
HB-Series lenses and magnetic mounting
The HERO13 Black detects which HB-Series lens is fitted and changes its settings to match. GoPro sells the Ultra Wide Lens Mod with a 177-degree field of view, the Macro Lens Mod that focuses from 11 cm, the Anamorphic Lens Mod for a 21:9 cinematic frame, and an ND filter pack; all are sold separately. Mounting uses the built-in folding fingers and a 1/4-20 thread for standard tripods, and the camera also supports GoPro’s Magnetic Latch Mount, which clicks on and off in seconds. A Media Mod for the HERO12 Black also fits.
Sharing, audio and timecode
Wi-Fi 6 moves files to your phone up to 40% faster than before, according to GoPro, and USB-C handles wired transfers. GPS records speed and altitude so the Quik app can overlay them on your clips. Bluetooth audio lets you use AirPods, other earbuds or wireless microphones, and voice commands work through them. Creators using two or more GoPro HERO13 Black cameras can sync timecode wirelessly through Quik, which saves time in Final Cut or Premiere. Footage is stored on a microSD card rated V30 or UHS-3; no card is included.
Who This Is Not For
The GoPro HERO13 Black is not for divers who want to go past 10 m without buying a housing, and it is not a low-light camera: a small action-camera sensor struggles indoors and at night compared with a recent phone. HB-Series lenses, the magnetic mount and a fast microSD card are all extra costs. Owners of a HERO12 Black gain mainly the bigger battery, GPS and lens support, and the new battery will not work in their older camera. GoPro does not publish the weight of the HERO13 Black on its product page.
