The Dyson Supersonic Nural sensors, and why they are the actual upgrade
Dyson lists three things the Dyson Supersonic Nural sensors do. Scalp protect mode uses a Time of Flight sensor to measure how far the dryer is from your head and automatically reduces the heat as you get closer. Attachment learning means the machine recognises which attachment is fitted and restores the heat and airflow you last used with it. Pause detect uses a motion-sensing accelerometer to notice when you put the dryer down.
Scalp protect is the one that justifies the Dyson Supersonic Nural name. Heat damage from a hair dryer is mostly a function of how close the nozzle gets and for how long, and that is exactly the variable people cannot judge while drying the back of their own head. A sensor that measures the distance and adjusts is a genuinely different approach from a fixed temperature limit.
Attachment learning sounds minor until you use several attachments in one session. Without it, every change of tool means resetting heat and speed by hand. With it, fitting the diffuser puts you back where you were last time you used the diffuser.

Dyson publishes four Dyson Supersonic Nural heat settings and three speed settings on a Hyperdymium motor. Four heat levels rather than three is the practical difference from the older Supersonic: it gives you a genuinely low setting for fine or damaged hair rather than making you choose between warm and cold.

The gentle air attachment is the one worth knowing about if you dry a child’s hair or have a sensitive scalp: it diffuses a slower, cooler stream. The flyaway attachment is the one that does the trick Dyson built an advert around, using airflow rather than heat to tuck stray hairs under the top layer.
What we will not tell you about the Dyson Supersonic Nural
Dyson publishes 1,600 W and an airflow figure of 13.3 litres per second on its product pages, along with weight and dimensions in imperial units on its US site. We are not going to convert American inches and pounds into millimetres and grams and present the result as a Hong Kong unit’s specification, because a market version can differ and a converted number is not a manufacturer figure.
Dyson also does not publish the actual Dyson Supersonic Nural temperature in degrees for each of the four heat settings. Every listing that quotes one is quoting somebody’s measurement, not Dyson’s specification.
