The Osmo Pocket 4 Essential Combo is the smallest box DJI sells for its fourth-generation pocket gimbal camera. The camera is identical to every other Pocket 4 bundle: a 1-inch CMOS sensor on a 3-axis mechanical gimbal, a 2-inch rotating touchscreen, 4K up to 240fps for slow motion, 10-bit D-Log and 107 GB of built-in storage. What changes is the accessory list. DJI’s Essential bundle contains only the camera, the handle with a 1/4-inch thread, a carrying pouch and a USB-C cable. It suits people who already own a phone tripod and a microphone, or who simply want the camera at the lowest price DJI offers.

What the Essential bundle leaves out
Compared with the Standard Combo, the Osmo Pocket 4 Essential Combo drops two small items: the gimbal clamp and the wrist strap. The clamp locks the gimbal head when the camera is in its pouch, protecting the motors in a bag, and the strap stops a drop when you shoot one-handed. Neither affects image quality, and both are available as accessories. There is no battery handle, fill light, wide-angle lens or microphone in this box either; those come in the Creator, Vlog and Audio bundles. If you plan to buy those extras anyway, a bigger bundle usually works out cheaper than adding them one by one.

A 1-inch sensor and real slow motion
Inside the Osmo Pocket 4 Essential Combo is the same 1-inch CMOS sensor, behind a 20 mm equivalent f/2.0 lens, as in the more expensive kits. DJI lists 4K at 24 to 60fps for normal video and 4K at 100, 120, 200 and 240fps for slow motion, plus 1080p at up to 240fps. Vertical 3K (1728 x 3072) is recorded natively up to 60fps for Reels and TikTok. Photos reach about 37 MP. ISO runs from 50 to 12,800, rising to 25,600 in low-light video, which helps in restaurants, malls and evening streets where phone footage turns noisy. None of that is reduced in the Osmo Pocket 4 Essential Combo.

Colour and dynamic range
On the Osmo Pocket 4 Essential Combo, DJI quotes up to 14 stops of dynamic range and supports 10-bit D-Log in normal Video mode, so you can grade footage to match a main camera or keep highlights in a bright desert sky. The maximum bitrate is 180 Mbps in HEVC. For people who never grade, the standard profile still benefits from the large sensor in contrast-heavy scenes such as a sunset over the sea. Digital zoom reaches 4x in video and 2x in photos; it is a crop, not optical zoom, so use it sparingly at higher resolutions.

Gimbal, ActiveTrack and the screen
The 3-axis mechanical gimbal turns at up to 180 degrees per second, and DJI rates its angular vibration range at plus or minus 0.005 degrees, which is why walking shots look steady without the crop of electronic stabilisation. ActiveTrack 7.0 follows a subject even with up to 4x zoom. The 2-inch touchscreen (556 x 314, 1,000 nits) rotates to switch between landscape and portrait, and doubles as the power button. On the Osmo Pocket 4 Essential Combo you get all of this without paying for accessories you may never fit.

Battery, storage and charging
The Osmo Pocket 4 Essential Combo has a built-in 1,545 mAh, 11.95 Wh battery that gives up to 240 minutes, measured by DJI at 1080p/24fps at 25 C with Wi-Fi and screen off, so real 4K use is shorter. With DJI’s 65 W charger (sold separately) it reaches 80% in about 18 minutes and 100% in about 32 minutes. Footage goes to 107 GB of built-in memory or a microSD card up to 1 TB. Three built-in microphones record sound, and DJI Mic 3, Mic 2 and Mic Mini transmitters can connect if you add one later. Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.4 link the camera to the DJI Mimo app.
Who the Essential Combo suits
Pick the Osmo Pocket 4 Essential Combo if you want DJI’s 1-inch gimbal camera for travel, family videos or daily vlogs and already have a tripod, a mic or a power bank. It also suits people buying a second unit as a backup. If you shoot outdoors with wind, or interview other people, a bundle with a microphone is the better buy; if you carry the camera loose in a bag every day, the Standard Combo’s gimbal clamp is worth having. The camera weighs about 190 g and measures about 144 x 44 x 34 mm.
Who This Is Not For
The Osmo Pocket 4 Essential Combo is not ideal if you need a microphone, fill light or extra battery from day one: none are included. It also lacks the gimbal clamp and wrist strap found in the Standard Combo. The camera is not waterproof, works between 0 and 40 C (so avoid hot cars in summer), and zoom is digital only. DJI’s 65 W charger is sold separately.
