The JBL Flip 7 Squad is the Flip 7 dressed for the outdoors. Squad is JBL’s camouflage finish, a pattern of olive, khaki and dark tones that looks at home strapped to a backpack, on the tailgate of a 4×4 or beside a campfire. It is built for that kind of use too: IP68 protection against dust and water, a rating for a 1 metre drop onto concrete, a 25W RMS woofer and 10W RMS tweeter with AI Sound Boost, and up to 14 hours of playback, or up to 16 hours with Playtime Boost.

The camouflage pattern up close
In JBL’s photos the Squad fabric is a camouflage print in olive green, khaki and near-black, with the JBL logo in a muted tone so it does not break the pattern. Because the print mixes light and dark patches, the JBL Flip 7 Squad hides dust, sand, mud splashes and scuffs better than any plain colour in the range, including Black, on which pale desert dust shows clearly. That makes it the most forgiving finish for people who use their speaker hard and do not want to clean it after every trip. If you want a calmer, plain earth tone instead, the Sand version is the alternative.

Built for desert camps and wadis
Weekend camping in the UAE means fine sand, dust and the occasional knock. IP68 covers the dust part completely and also water immersion up to 1.5 metres in fresh water for up to 30 minutes, so a wadi crossing or a sudden winter shower is not a problem. JBL also designs the speaker to survive a 1 metre drop onto concrete, the kind of fall that happens when it slides off a car bonnet or a rock. Brush sand off the grille rather than blowing it in, and rinse the JBL Flip 7 Squad with fresh water if it gets salty or muddy.

Heat: the one limit to respect
JBL sets the maximum operating temperature at 45°C. In the desert in summer, or in a closed car parked in the sun, temperatures easily pass that. The practical rule for the JBL Flip 7 Squad is simple: keep it in the shade of the tent or the car, never leave it on a dashboard or a dark rock in direct midday sun, and save the long camping sessions for the cooler months from October to April. Of everything the outdoors can throw at the JBL Flip 7 Squad, heat is the one its ratings do not cover.

Sound and battery around the campfire
The 45 x 80 mm woofer is rated at 25W RMS and the 16 mm tweeter at 10W RMS, with a 60 Hz to 20 kHz response. Out in the open there are no walls to reinforce the bass, and AI Sound Boost helps by analysing the music in real time and driving the drivers with less distortion. The 17.28 Wh battery gives up to 14 hours depending on volume and content, and Playtime Boost adds up to 2 hours for 16 in total, which covers an evening and the next morning. Charging takes about 2.5 hours at 5 V / 3 A from a power bank or car adapter of that rating; there is no USB cable in the box.
Who the Squad suits
The JBL Flip 7 Squad suits campers, hikers, off-road drivers, cyclists and fishermen, and anyone whose speaker spends more time in a car boot than on a shelf. It also suits anyone who likes a tactical, outdoor look, since the JBL Flip 7 Squad matches camping gear, hunting jackets and military-style bags. Clip it to a backpack with the carabiner on the PushLock end cap and it stays with you on the trail. Inside, it is identical to every other Flip 7.
The rest, in brief
Bluetooth 5.4 with A2DP 1.4 and AVRCP 1.6. Auracast pairs two Flip 7 speakers in stereo, useful for spreading sound across a larger camp, or connects several Auracast-enabled JBL speakers. USB-C plays lossless audio from a laptop with compatible content. The PushLock system accepts interchangeable accessories, and a carabiner is included. JBL lists recycled plastic and fabric in the build and FSC-certified paper packaging.
Who This Is Not For
The JBL Flip 7 Squad is not for midday use in the summer sun: JBL’s 45°C operating limit is easy to exceed outdoors in the UAE. It has no 3.5 mm input listed, no USB cable or charger in the box, and it cannot charge a phone, so bring a power bank for your devices. It will not join PartyBoost speakers such as the Flip 6 or Charge 5. JBL does not state that it floats, and for a large group around the fire a single 35W RMS speaker may not be loud enough.

JBL Flip 7 Squad FAQ
What does Squad mean on the JBL Flip 7 Squad?
Squad is JBL’s name for its camouflage finish, a pattern of olive, khaki and dark tones.
Is the JBL Flip 7 Squad sand-proof for desert camping?
Yes. It is rated IP68, which covers full protection against dust, and it can be rinsed with fresh water.
Can I leave the JBL Flip 7 Squad in the car?
No, not in summer. JBL sets a 45°C maximum operating temperature, and a parked car gets much hotter.
Can I charge it from a power bank?
Yes. It charges over USB-C; JBL rates about 2.5 hours at 5 V / 3 A, and you need your own cable.
Will it survive a fall onto rocks?
JBL rates it for a 1 metre drop onto concrete; higher falls or sharp rocks are outside that rating.
Does the JBL Flip 7 Squad sound different from other colours?
No. The camouflage fabric is the only difference; drivers, battery and IP68 rating are the same on every Flip 7.
Is it genuine?
Yes. We sell the genuine JBL Flip 7 Squad, brand-new in its sealed box.
How long does delivery take?
